The CDC has been updating #SARSCoV2 genomics every 2 weeks but has failed to do so since their 9 May post. covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-t... This isn't a good idea with 2 new variants emerging (NB.1.8.1 in Asia, and XFG in the US). Graph by @jpweiland.bsky.social

Ableism is everywhere. When you say “only the vulnerable have to worry”… that’s ableism. When you tell someone to “just try harder”… that’s ableism. When you ask if someone has pre-existing conditions? That’s ableism. No social justice without disability justice and inclusion.

Must-read thread

Class action lawsuits. That’s how you fix this. After the regime change that is, and the rule of law is respected once more.

It's just so gobsmackingly, in-your-face, contemptuous. If these bonuses are to hold on to their 'best employees' as they claim, I say let them leave and go off to ruin other firms who seem to think bonuses = responsible and professional staff

Rail companies are likely to be forced to provide more generous compensation when they fail to assist disabled passengers, thanks to the actions of an accessible transport campaigner. www.disabilitynewsservice.com/activists-le...

Pope Leo XIV is descended from Creole people of color from New Orleans. Take a look at historical records that trace the story of his mother’s family.

Great thread. As Hetan says, the most charitable interpretation is a standard “quid pro quo” that comes alongside higher fees. But other than that….there’s not a lot to commend it. I could think of an oped line which would identify HE weak spots. This ain’t it, as the thread deconstructs v well.

I think a lot about what Carl Sagan said in one of his final interviews.

Great to meet with experts and young campaigners from chemtrust.bsky.social ukyouthfornature.bsky.social and mcsuk.bsky.social who are raising awareness of the toxic threat PFAS pose to our environment and health! #StopPFAS

In the last year before Covid arrived in England, 4,059 people waited more than twelve hours to get admitted to hospital after the decision was made to admit them to hospital. During the emergency phase of the pandemic that number rose to a staggering 48,626.

I've just seen some staggering data on how badly infections are affecting urgent care here *now*. It's hard to comprehend. It's hard to get your head round it. You need to see it to believe it. 👀

BBC's Henry Zeffman lists seven things he learnt from the election results... ...and none of the headlines mentions the Lib Dems coming second or controlling more councils now than Conservatives www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

"There are many people who haven't forgiven the Conservatives and they are dismayed by the decisions that the Labour government has made." "People are looking for alternatives and it's the Liberal Democrats that can offer the change that the country is crying out for." @LibDemDaisy.bsky.social

Fascinating VoxEU column on polarisation of news consumption in general and via social media. Finds that there are *effectively* two versions of each news outlet for liberals and conservatives. cepr.org/voxeu/column...

Unsurprising that our urgent care system is creaking under the weight of the pandemic's legacy, burnt out staff, years of underfunding compared to need and an ageing population. Far more surprising that it still hasn't been given the attention from govt it deserves. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

1000% this .... the need for personalization of #glp1ra dose has been rather obvious (and, in fact, was the part of the rationale) behind AWARD-11

The evidence base on the safety and effectiveness of physician associate and anaesthetic associate practice in the UK is “sparse and of variable quality,” finds new study @trishgreenhalgh.bsky.social @martinmckee.bsky.social www.bmj.com/content/388/...

Lots of people (including me) are deeply concerned that the NHS workforce is being de-skilled. There have been lots of developments regarding physician associates recently. My newsletter today will update you about what’s going on. This is really important - sign up here! jujuliagrace.substack.com

If you, the general public, WANT GPs you MUST fight for them ❤️ GP training = 10 yrs Physician Associate = 2 yrs plus 1600 hrs “on the job” training in various areas 😞🤦🏼‍♀️

The Government cannot go ahead with cutting taxes for tech billionaires like Elon Musk while slashing support for disabled people and carers. This is simply about fairness.

As sick leave costs spiral, European states move to cut benefits by @juliadoubleday.bsky.social www.thegauntlet.news/p/as-sick-le...

It's clear. Nigel Farage and his Reform bootlickers will never stand up for Britain if it means standing up to Donald Trump.

Man I feel like an underrated part of why I’m so anxious is the fact that I have to track like 4-5 mediums of communication all the time. Getting mail once a day and then your phone ringing if somebody needs something? Seems incredible

🚨 NO UK PUBLIC HEALTH MINISTER Public health isn’t optional. Clinically Vulnerable people can’t wait. This role must be filled urgently. Leadership matters. Repost if you agree!

We HAVE to stand up for NHS Whistleblowers - because one day this could be any of us…. we all know there is a long and illustrious history of the NHS forcing people out who stand up for patient safety.

This feels very important. NHS Trust chair forced about after raising very important issues? What is going on here? Please share www.crowdjustice.com/case/hold-nh...
