one of the projects of the court is to expand the ability of states to pursue reactionary ends and constrain the ability of the federal government to set minimum standards *or* of democratic-led states to expand upon existing rights

Some people think this is an exaggeration but I will say that if I were HHS Secretary and my goal were to kill as many children as possible, it would be difficult to distinguish the actions I would take from those that Kennedy has taken.

And then this shit just came out. When you’re making over $700k a year, gaining $12k is nothing. It’s a nice vacation, redoing the garage, giving a niece/nephew a car. When you’re making $23k a year, losing $1600 is “are we paying for food or for the house or for medical bills” territory.

I have been working on a research project for my library and it has become increasingly difficult to actually find usable information.

"If funding cuts to the NIH are implemented as planned, even allowing for efficiencies, then a 15% - 20% drop in submissions from the US is not beyond the bounds of possibility." www.deltathink.com/news-views-h...

As long as these six justices control the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Constitution is dead. There's no federal republic left to save, only states. @vox.com www.vox.com/scotus/41758...

Not to rain on everyone’s ceasefire-not-ceasefire parade, but that wrecking ball of a big dumb bill is still working its way through the Senate and still launching an assault on women, wages, benefits, and the entire working class

The reason we entered choose your own reality zone is because the official reality revealed itself is nothing other than the chosen, equally false reality of a particular and strange subset of Americans.

The goal is a permanent underclass and no upward mobility.

they know they can't win an argument on the merits and time isn't on their side so they've tried to cram everything into this one Big Brutal Bill, and it's important that they fail

Please take heat warnings and advisories seriously. Drink as much water as you can stomach. Stay out of the sun as much as you possibly can. Demand that cooling needs be prioritized on the electrical grid - it matters more than so-called "data centers." www.scientificamerican.com/article/extr...

Campaigning is now all about base turnout, however that means grappling with who the base is. Targeting should be about reaching the voters most likely to show up for you. Historically, swing voters were reliable voters which is why targeting them worked.

we only have each other, the entire media is gonna be creaming for war coverage

turns out climate change will cost dramatically more than economists predicted, and the cost of addressing it is actually negative. oops! prospect.org/environment/...

Michael Pham fled Vietnam at the age of 13. He was named bishop of San Diego a month ago. Today, he stood watch at a courthouse: ICE agents were “standing there covered with masks as we walked toward the courtroom. Eventually the agents scattered and went away” timesofsandiego.com/life/2025/06...

Your regular reminder that Cuomo is a Republican. He literally launched a project to keep the New York State senate in Republican hands so they could block all the bills Democrats wanted so he didn’t have to do it. New Yorkers don’t let New Yorkers rank Republicans!

We cannot survive as any sort of Democratic country without significant court reform.

Trans folks, I know the world feels dead set against you right now, but you are all the shining lights of creation, and your lives are pathfinders to the future. I won't give you platitudes of everything being ok, but I promise that you are loved, wanted, and needed just as you are.

they're getting super comfortable arresting elected officials

seen some people complaining that this is a political stunt and lemme say if this was the kind of political stunt more politicians were doing on a regular basis we wouldn't be where we are today dude is actually putting himself on the line here, fuck off with that shit

wrote about why the protests over the weekend matter. showing that trump is unpopular is important; showing that resistors are not alone is important. and if you're going to get to more disruptive protest, you need to build on events like no kings. www.everythingishorrible.net/p/yes-protes...

Ohio has had term limits for over 10 years. This year they decided to slash education funding by 60% and fund the Browns Stadium. Term limits enable special interests and unelected staff. They're an an anti-democratic disaster. They're also unconstitutional. So no they're not a magic fix.

even the NYPD isn't pretending subways are crime-ridden hellscapes! "Subway crime decreased to the second-lowest level in 27 years, with major crime dropping 18.1% (465 vs. 568) during the first quarter, and zero murders in the transit system for the first time in seven years."

1 in 7 Americans relies on SNAP for their food benefits. Not only is it a critical program in promoting food security/health, but it has an outstanding return on investment: for every $1 invested in SNAP, there is $1.54 in economic activity as people go to local grocers. www.cbpp.org/research/foo...

📢BREAKING: Just left the courthouse for our NIH grant termination case Judge ruled terminations are “VOID & ILLEGAL” As a plaintiff, I felt a wave of relief & hope; he acknowledged the discrimination & harm Closed by asking, ‘Have we fallen so low? Have we no shame?’

Don’t rank Cuomo.

WTF

If you are too young to remember the Iraq War, you'll hear "no one protested" and "no one knew they were lying." Millions of people knew they were lying and protested. The press not only did not want a record of mass dissent; they did not want a record of mass knowledge of lies.

Nonviolent mass protests only work if they are sustained and not just one off every three months. If you actually want your nonviolent movement to work, you can’t go back to work on Monday. You actually have to sustain the protest for months or until you oust the fascist leader.

Truly wild photos coming in from Los Angeles right now.
