From rural towns to big cities, every student deserves a shot. Title I and other federal programs aren’t extras—they’re lifelines. They fund the teachers, resources, and support kids need to thrive. Gutting that funding? That’s gutting their future. #HandsOffPublicSchools

Folks, Please don’t lose sight of the fact that the President is supposed to serve the American people. Not his pockets and his ego. We’re so deep in the mire that we’re losing even the memory of normal. Peanut farm, people. Peanut farm.

America First = America Alone Unprecedented: the U.S. is the only country out of 184 to see a drop in international tourism this year. Everyone else is rebounding. We’re projected to lose $12.5 billion in spending—jobs, small businesses, entire communities will feel this.

@vermontgmg.bsky.social: “This is textbook authoritarianism, a classic example of what one-time Peru president General Óscar Benavides captured in his adage: ‘For my friends, everything; for my enemies, the law.’”

📌 This thread is so important that @hcrichardson.bsky.social dedicated much of her ‘Letters To An American’ substack post to it today. Please read and share! ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Major update to #SCIMaP visualization of impacts of cuts to federally supported health research. Map now includes information on future economic losses (impact of proposed reduction of NIH IDC to 15%) and current economic losses (impact of terminated NIH grants). scienceimpacts.org

Reminder that there is no process that would make it legal to disappear someone from the United States to a foreign gulag to face abuse and torture

The US desperately needs more doctors, engineers & highly educated workers. But we’re telling students that if they want a higher education, they have to go into debt. Other countries understand how important it is to invest in their young people. We should be doing the same.

WHEN is his mental acuity going to become a topic for mainstream media?

Bill Owens, the producer of CBS’s 60 Minutes, resigned in protest. Wendy McMahon, the head of CBS News, has now resigned.   I say to Shari Redstone: Enough is enough. Do not capitulate to Trump’s attack on a free press. Do not settle Trump’s bogus lawsuit against 60 Minutes.

Cato has published my comprehensive review of the ~240 Venezuelans the US government renditioned 2 months ago to Salvador’s notorious prison. We identified FIFTY who came legally, never violated any immigration law, but are imprisoned at the US government’s request and at US taxpayer expense.

In these difficult times building community, and support for each other, is extremely important. That’s why I’m holding community dances around Vermont. We just had a great event in Hardwick. People of all ages danced the night away.

This should be bigger news, no? www.yahoo.com/news/trump-s...

A) GOP budget reveals them as debt hypocrites B) It’s not bad BECAUSE it grows the deficit, but because of HOW it does (tax cuts for the rich and slashing programs for the rest of us VS. taxing the rich and investing in ourselves) @stephaniekelton.bsky.social : www.nytimes.com/2017/10/05/o...

According to a study by Penn Wharton, Trump's "big, beautiful bill" that pays for tax breaks for the rich by cutting Medicaid leads to a $700 LOSS in income for the working class, a $1,000 LOSS in income for the poor & a $389,000 INCREASE for the top 0.1%. We must defeat it.

TIL that okapis exist.

Founder folk were so worried that the American people would see them as bigger than life (NO KINGS!) that they insisted that portraits & statues of them were actual size—no bigger.

Must read.

The Global North talk constantly about the "Finance Gap", but finance for climate is limited by orthodoxy, not reality. @laramerling.bsky.social writes for RIGHT TURN (ISSUE #1)

Good morning. Republicans are trying to push through a bill that would throw 13M people off their insurance. All for a tax cut for the rich. That’s the combined population of West Virginia Hawaii New Hampshire Maine Montana Rhode Island both Dakotas Alaska Vermont Wyoming

If you pay attention to just one thing tonight, make it this

NEW PIECE: Can China Buy America? Fifty years ago last Wednesday the Ford Administration created an entity to deal with Fox News's sudden new concern with trade deficits. www.crisesnotes.com/cfius50anniv...

We’ve become so desensitized to corruption that the Attorney General who spent years lobbying on behalf of Qatar approved a private jet gift from Qatar and it’s not even in the top 10 scandals of the week.

"No Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State." Nothing in there says there has to be an obvious quid pro quo. Utter bullshit.

Thanks for the clarification @merriam-webster.com!

The Pope gets it. The most important question about AI isn’t a technical question. The most important a question is about how to maintain and grow a just society in the age of AI.

If ICE agents in the US are ever held to account for their actions (seizing people without due process, etc.), “I was just following orders” didn’t work at the Nuremberg trials either.

Packed house in Sarasota this morning — with a full room and overflow — alongside @chrismurphyct.bsky.social to bring the fight directly to the people. While Republican members of Congress hide from their constituents, we're showing up in red districts across the country.

Sounds like Dan Bishop—the deputy director of OMB—needs a history lesson on BOTH insurrections and 9/11.

No matter what this Administration tells the American people, the law is very clear: Members of Congress have a legal right to enter any DHS detention facility to conduct oversight without prior notice - something I’ve done twice this year without issue.

State debt is generative. It proceeds not from deficiency, but from robust public powers and resources. moneyontheleft.org/2025/05/09/b...

Excellent piece on Miller on habeas. Far superior to the surprisingly both-sides-ish coverage by some media. What Miller is claiming the power to do isn’t questionable or dubious. It would be anti-constitutional usurpation. www.stevevladeck.com/p/148-suspen...
