Ruinous. This must be resisted with all our might. “Companies…have supersized their spending on [AI], with no signs of slowing down…The tech industry’s giants are building data centers that can cost more than $100 billion and will consume more electricity than a million American homes.”

Meanwhile... over on X ... Darren Grimes, the Tiny Tears of British politics, is upset because it's not the fifties any more. Modern day Soho Square on the right and you can see how much it's changed.

Haaretz exposes what’s been obvious since this heinous Hunger Games aid distribution “system” began. “”It's a killing field,” one soldier said. "Where I was stationed… people were killed every day. They're treated like a hostile force – no crowd-control measures, no tear gas – just live fire.””

And why it gets great viewing figures on the bbc, too. A bit embarrassing when you’re supposed to be a pro-Britain and pro-markets paper and constantly denigrate British commercial successes…

The Israeli army has been killing dozens of Palestinians at aid hubs in Gaza practically on a daily basis. Soldiers have told Haaretz they have been ordered to fire at crowds “even though it was clear they posed no threat” www.haaretz.com/israel-news/...

A new study by researchers at Oxford Brookes University, funded by the charity Prevent Breast Cancer, offers new insights into how public health campaigns can better communicate the link between alcohol and breast cancer among UK women. 74n5c4m7.r.eu-west-1.awstrack.me/L0/https:%2F...

Thames Water’s litany of woes in Oxtord continues with a broken water main on Rymers Lane, seen just after 6am this morning. The site has since been fenced off by ODS, the City Council’s direct works arm.

Labour’s plans for local government are top down diktat with no consultation, no respect for local needs or nuance just and fiddling while Rome burns. bristolgreenparty.org.uk/greens-slam-...

Voters who have deserted Labour since the election are much more likely to vote Green or Lib Dems, than Reform, new YouGov polling finds. Green and Lib Dem defectors are also much more likely to consider switching back than Reform voters who overwhelmingly say they're committed to Farage's party

Oxford has been ranked only the ninth best city for cycling in the UK by American advocacy group PeopleForBikes. Cambridge was in first place, followed by the London boroughs of Hackney, Islington, Newham, Waltham Forest, Southwark and Westminster, then Edinburgh.

Bindweed: a joyous riot of flowers. Don’t pull it all out!

Imagine naming a Bill after a woman who called for a pogrom.

Don't forget to rinse out every jar and tin you finish, guys x

Happy Daniel Hannon Day to all who celebrate it. I hope you all enjoy the fireworks as we mark perhaps the worst piece of political forecasting going. www.reaction.life/p/britain-lo...

Having just come back from a long weekend in Nieuw-Vennep, perfect 30+ yr old built new town, wondering why we STILL insist that ‘it’s not for us’. And an actual local councillor said to me yesterday ‘they have all that space there though’!! What?! One of most densely populated of countries??

I remember saying on X that doing this on the two child limit rebels was a bad idea because the whips had ramped up to 100% straight away and left themselves nowhere to go for a bigger rebellion.

"Who is the leader responsible for creating the largest number of child amputees in the world...for the largest number of journalists killed in a conflict."

Great piece here @graceblakeley.substack.com

I'm excited to announce this new paper we have in The Lancet Planetary Health. We show that the world is not moving towards a just and ecological future for all.

How did Spain come to be the only nation holding firm on its aid spending? | Ana Carbajosa

The US attack on Iran was unprovoked and illegal, done in cooperation with a regime that is currently perpetrating a genocide, whose leader is wanted by the International Criminal Court. That is the world we are in.

Consultation has opened on the proposed congestion charge for Oxford, where car drivers would be charged £5/day to pass any of the six cameras at key points around the city. The charge is described as “temporary” until traffic filters can be brought in. letstalk.oxfordshire.gov.uk/congestion-c...

Brilliant summary here by @zackpolanski.bsky.social Housing is a public good, shelter is an essential human need and treating it as an asset has a huge cost especially to the next generation, as we are seeing right now.

Oxford Congestion Charge: consultation is open!

The report on failures at Dundee University is devastating. All sorts of financial, leadership and governance failures. And this ol’ indicator: ‘Female members of staff in particular, reported being spoken over, side-lined or discussed in public as being obstructive’ www.sfc.ac.uk?news=dundee-...

It’s part of the ‘aspiration’ but how soon or whether there will be amount funding is still to be confirmed.

And cause more damage to roads

Can’t believe we’re still having the stupid conversation about whether sleeping with children is good or bad. For most of history of humans we sleep together. People gain independence & confidence when secure & cared for, not when isolation is forced upon them! #womanshour

Glad to speak at cabinet today in favour of the congestion charge and consultation - arguing for weight based charging, so that smaller vehicles pay less. Thank you to all the residents who have been in touch with me about the scheme.

I went to add flowers to my Dad’s grave today & visited his apartment & this was on his calendar for today. Happy Father’s Day, value wisdom

Nigel Farage came to south Wales and all he could think of to talk about was coal mines? I hear he's off to Manchester next week to promote cotton manufacturing, and Egypt the week after to talk up pointy stone mausoleums.

No-one, NO-ONE,should be granted a “request for near-blanket immunity for serious environmental crimes” If the potential buyers of Thames Water can’t clean up, they shouldn’t be allowed to buy www.theguardian.com/business/202...

Here's the Open Statement on sludge spreading launched by us at Fighting Dirty, and signed by many leading figures. The water companies are using farmland as a dump for hazardous chemicals. They mislead farmers, poison the land and threaten our health. It must stop. fightingdirty.org/open-stateme...

IPCC: renewables are 10 times more efficient than new nuclear at CO2 mitigation; new nuclear builds are vastly over-cost & over-time; since all small modular reactors are in design stage, industry forecasts must be treated with scepticism; & waste, proliferation & siting problems are all unresolved👇

BREAKING: Federal agents in plain clothes and unmarked cars tried to snatch 1st graders from LA elementary schools—told staff they had “parental consent.” They lied. When pressed, they HID THEIR IDS. DHS admits they sent them. This wasn’t a welfare check. It was a test run for a police state.

What we all suspected shown to be true- ridiculous to say that nationalisation requires paying off investors who let it deteriorate & liabilities mean is worth zero- BUT it is vital national infrastructure. To otherwise shows state capture by these investors
