I’ve got one of these. It’s very useful.

🧵 ZX ROM cartridges... So many good reasons for the #ZXSpectrum to have them, a few bad reasons. In hindsight, I'd say overall Sinclair didn't support them enough. The main bad reason: Price. £19.95 for a game on cartridge was over three times the average price of the same game on cassette, £5.95.

Didn't write my own for the #ZX81 or #ZXSpectrum but did for the #SAMcoupe, using the built in networking so one player was Pac-Man and the other a ghost. Originally worked on it back in the 90s, but last year debugged it when at the Retro Computer Museum in Leicester. www.samcoupe.com #retrogaming

Hadn't seen this Imagine Software clip before (BBC 'Riverside' 1983) www.youtube.com/watch?v=3aV5... "An industry dominated by teenagers who could retire as millionaires by 25" If only! £10 for my first game in late teens on a #SAMcoupe diskzine! But I'm still developing for SAM: www.samcoupe.com

Nope. I started with a #ZXSpectrum 48K... then a #ZXSpectrum 128K +2... then a #SAMcoupe... then another #SAMcoupe... then another #SAMcoupe... And got kinda stuck there... still developing after 32 years for the #SAMcoupe... Everything I do... www.samcoupe.com

A second PCB has entered the manufacturing game! And about to submit an order with four more PCB designs. #electronics #samcoupe #retrocomputing #indiedev

Great to see support for the #Samcoupe was riding high in SU with their competition here. (6 months before launch) Some pre-release info in the mag such as 64 colours (SAM had 128 when launched) and wrong resolution info. Plus they think the network port (MIDI) would give worldwide multiplayer!

Low stock of issue 26 of SAM Revival magazine (Summer 2022) - the magazine for the SAM Coupe computer! 72 pages of news, articles, previews and features + cover disk features 5 games + 2 utilities. www.samcoupe.com/quickshop.htm #samcoupe #magazine #retrocomputing #retrogaming #gamedev #indiedev

The anticipation when producing new hardware... Who else sits clicking refresh to try and watch the production progress at JLCPCB move on a notch? #retrocomputing #chiptune #hardware

And this would be repeated later by SAMCo at the end of 1990/start of 1991 for the v2.0->3.0 upgrade to fix more bugs in the ROM. This second time however the upgrade wouldn't be free, but rather ~£15 if I remember correctly. ROM 3.0 was then considered standard, along with 512K and one disk drive.

Played the ZX Spectrum version of Glider Rider on my +2 back in the day and it was my first real introduction to the capabilities of the AY soundchip! Wonderful stuff! #zxspectrum #chiptune

Not been about for a week or two for various reasons. Anything fun #retrogaming / #gaming / #retrocomputing I've missed here? Some updates coming shortly for everything I do for the #samcoupe and other platforms. 😀

Interesting news snippet about Menzies stocking the SAM Coupe. This was right when MGT went under, so Menzies later sold them off for £40 each. (256K/no drive if I remember correctly) - If only I had known about that at the time! It was the spring of 1993 when I was able to get my first SAM Coupe.

Not a good experience for a SAM Coupe owner in the NCE letters. So many early problems with the original ROM and general quality control. The oval circles, yeap, that's due to the aspect ratio used by the SAM, it isn't 4:3. But by May'90 there were far better speccy emulation methods rather than...

With longer videos now possible on BSky here's one showing the Quazar Surround on #SAMCoupe with the Rainforest demo, one of pieces of bundled software with the soundcard (from an issue of Soundbyte diskzine that I produced 76 issues of to support the soundcard between 1995-2004). #samcoupe
