Because Americans are no longer welcome anywhere in the world, book your next vacation at River Side Casino.

Once again loving this interpretation of Caesar’s last words #IdesofMarch 🗡️

einstein sent this to curie in 1911 when she was being harassed by tabloids. it contains everything you’d want in such a letter: (1) your haters are trash (2) you’re a baller, a true queen (3) i have determined the statistical law of motion of the diatomic molecule in planck’s radiation field 🧪⚛️

This is a harmful phrasing and it’s disappointing to see it used. Pretending that no management is happening and, worse, offering the implication that less management is “good” is a viewpoint that I wish we could evolve beyond as an industry, already. Especially leaders: do better, and be better.

My favourite genres are: 5. The protagonist is not someone you want to emulate 4. Let's deny this undeniable attraction as long as possible 3. Classic literature, but make it Muppets 2. Highly competent but frankly quite stupid gang of thieves 1. We're getting the band (back) together

That last one is perfect

Every time people tout using facial recognition to find criminals, I'm reminded of the fact that when I worked for an Xbox contract, we literally had an entire help article for "How come my Kinect can't see me" where we had to carefully ask if the person was Black. Because it COULDN'T SEE THEM.

A lesser-known power of Shirley Jackson's 'The Lottery' is where it comes in its collection. Spoilers, but I suspect you know how 'The Lottery' ends. It's famous for a reason. But this is important: Jackson arranged the collection it was named after, and she chose the arrangement. 1/

Your periodic reminder the Alamo “heroes” were fighting for human enslavement. And the eventual winning of Texas “independence” was just winning independence to keep humans enslaved. It’s an extreme version of the same logic the right uses now: “we want the freedom to take away freedom of others”

RIP David Johansen. This is rock n roll.

I forget which one of you recommended "Shark Heart" by Emily Habeck but I thank you. What a glorious, bewildering story with such deeply familiar themes. For the rest of you, go read it.

These stories amount to "the left was so annoying about pronouns or liberals made people feel so guilty about plastic straws they had no choice but to get on board with the second coming of the Third Reich and the destruction of the planet."

Q: Why is it so much easier for the US right to organize and be unified than the US left? A: Anti-Black racism. The only consistent thing that the right agrees on, is this. It's what unifies them. But the US left is very anti-Black too! So they try to get the benefits, without helping Black folk.🤷🏿‍♂️

If anyone needs to read something at least semi-hopeful, the latest @highcountrynews.bsky.social story I edited, by the wonderful Caroline Van Hemert, is about a wolf pack's remarkable ability to pivot under pressure, and thrive.

I was joking with my therapist about how I had resisted Costco all these years because we truly do not have the storage and she looked me straight in the eye and said, "Costco sells sheds."

Sometimes my wife makes cake and there isn't room for it in the main fridge so it goes in the beer fridge which then becomes the beer and cake fridge and I don't know if home appliances have emotions but if they do I bet this fridge is pretty happy with it.

Happy tenth birthday to a real one

El Museo del Prado nos pide que compartamos los cielos azules de sus obras. Uno de mis cuadros favoritos: Concierto de aves de Frans Snyder. Mirad ese mochuelo. Mirad ese caos. Mirad ese azul. #LosBlueskyDelPrado

A favourite quote about Spain. Galician writer Julio Camba writing in 1929: "Spanish cuisine is overflowing with garlic and religious concerns". ("La cocina española está llena de ajo y de preocupaciones religiosas.")

Walking in to NASA’s JPL today as a woman in science leadership felt almost like a protest. They can take us off the webpages and the walls, but we will still be here, absolutely crushing it, and supporting our community while we do it. Happy International Day of Women in Science, everyone.
