Our nonfiction story of the week is Liechtenstein by Sarah Kartalia.

We are saddened by the passing of Nahid Rachln. She was kind enough to send us this beautiful flash back in 2017, when we had only been publishing for a year. She lives on in her work 🙏 forgelitmag.com/2017/01/23/t...

Q: Who is funny, sassy, witty, a great writer, my pal, and in McSweeney's? A: @sarahstarrmurphy.bsky.social ✨

Our story of the week is Circle by Mileva Anastasiadou. @happilander.bsky.social

Q: Which of Shakespeare’s tragedies most clearly evokes our current situation? A: All of them, performed simultaneously in the round by amateur actors with fake British accents who’ve forgotten one-third of their lines.

"Compare the characters at the end of 'Our Town' to ourselves on January 19, 2025. Is Emily right when she says that the living didn’t know how good they had it?"

"2. Where is Dorian Gray’s portrait, now that it has left the attic? Giving a presser on the new, Qatari-Royal-Family-gifted Air Force One." www.mcsweeneys.net/articles/fin... Awesome piece by @sarahstarrmurphy.bsky.social !

Pretty psyched to be in McSweeney’s today!! I’ve been told this piece is funny/depressing and I’d love it if you gave it a read.

Our nonfiction story of the week is Accomplice by Grace Kendall.

Very excited to have this up today! Thanks @belladonnacomedy.bsky.social !

…I lay back to stare at the foam ceiling and consider the pros and cons of polite conversation. It seems like mostly cons, today. Delighted to publish this brilliant story from @slashnburnett.bsky.social !! Raises so many important questions about our experiences with healthcare.

Our story of the week is In the Style of Banshees Keening by Emma Burnett.

"You know what produces 72% of the world’s oxygen but doesn’t get its own special day? That’s right, motherfucking algae." A snarky delight by @sarahstarrmurphy.bsky.social

Our story of the week is The Election Goes Badly by Dawn Tasaka Steffler. @dawnsteffler.bsky.social

Brilliant novel by James Stewart III - I was lucky to work with him to publish a version of the first chapter at Forge in 2021! His writing engages with small moments of family life and the intersection of race and class. Read his piece at Forge and treat yourself to this fantastic book!

Read this! Short and fast and brilliant!!

Happy Earth Day to everyone except dolphins. (Thanks @pointsincase.com!)

“Holy jesus it’s too easy to forget. That you have a skeleton. That you’re mineral-framed, with the same hard, wet calcium as a Timpanogos stalactite.” So excited to publish this feral bit of beauty by the very talented Shauna Friesen!

Hoppy Easter! This fantastic rosette of hares appears in a late 12th-century copy of Peter Lombard’s commentary on the Psalms, now @bodleianlibraries.bsky.social MS. Auct. D. 2. 8, f. 115r 🐰

Our story of the week is Visitor, by Drew Townsend.

Our nonfiction story of the week is Hair Care Chronicles by Lori D. Johnson.

Accidentally bought a large-print book the other day and wow, what a pleasant reading experience!! (The book was Charlotte Wood’s Stone Yard Devotional, which is excellent - nuns, Australia, and a mouse plague - what more could you want?)

Our story of the week is Recital by Philip James Shaw

Volunteering for citizen science projects helps me feel I’m fighting back as important research and data collection is threatened. My kids are tracking rainfall and I’m counting river herring in their spring run upstream. There are so many projects and ways to participate out there, even virtually!

Our story of the week is Red Fox Family Night at the Movies by M.G. Kipp

Nice to see this pop up unexpectedly on my feed! 😍

Thrilled to share the cover for my debut short story collection, forthcoming in October from @autumnhousepress.bsky.social and chosen by @kristenarnett.bsky.social!

Our story of the week is Oraculum by Christina Ladd. @christinaladd.bsky.social

Literary magazines are a ton of work, but finding a brilliant story in the queue and sending an acceptance to the writer is just the best. Light on a gloomy day!
