This is excellent: www.nytimes.com/2025/06/14/o...

it is pretty nuts when you consider how much stuff--lungs, abdomen, liver, pancreas, intestines, gall bladder, heart--fits into the trunk of your body. honestly, wow. i'm marveling at this today.

how am i? wouldn't you like to know

also what is the antidote? cause it's very uncomfortable and i already tried to wash with cold water

i made pico de gallo at lunch and my fingers are burning from handling a poblano. is that possible? or do i have some odd nerve damage unrelated to culinary prep?

Know what phrase really irks? "deeply human" I hate that phrase and all the over-determined earnestness that goes along with it.

When the heck and why the heck did the word "surface" become so common as a verb??? (Shakes fists and rages against the heavens!!!)

Oh yah my babies, two substacks from I in one week...the zeitgeist herself is shifting!! open.substack.com/pub/unfetter...

all i want for memorial day is for some foreign dignitary to come here and scold donald like he's eight years old and violated the rules of stranger danger

First I made rhubarb compote, then I made Melissa Clark's ice cream base and then I blended the compote and mixed it into the base and then i churned it into ice cream and believe me when i tell you i have made the best, tangiest, most delicious cold treat ever.

Hey! it's been exactly 100 years since Virginia Woolf published Mrs. Dalloway and to celebrate, @jstordaily.bsky.social has a fab meditation on the book that heralded a revolution in literature (plus a reading list on the Bloomsbury posse). daily.jstor.org/a-hundred-ye...

how are youth soccer leagues charging 3k for a year? what the heck...it's outrageous this bill of goods/soccer industrial complex

Ólafur Darri Ólafsson - this guy--I'm waiting for a profile of him given he seems suddenly to be in everything. (Aslo Your Friends and Neighbors is seriously one of the worst shows in a long time and for some reason I can't quit it.)

This is SO alarming as is the fact that this news barely seems to make a dent in the zeitgeist.

Pop Smoke/Pope Smoke. Let's call the whole thing off.

Why did nobody ever tell me about the dogs who travel solo the subways in Moscow like regular youse and mes? daily.jstor.org/dogs-of-the-...

Where are my prez history buffs? JSTOR Daily just published a piece by the former Secy of State of AZ about Reagan's mom, her faith and what she bequeathed to him therein. It's fascinating. daily.jstor.org/ronald-reaga...

Just mistook Brad Lander for Al Gore.

The best sign I saw today while running the Bk half marathon read: Your outie likes to run up hills.

Lafcadio Hearn has the best name in terms of utterance satisfaction (one of the key metrics in determination of name superiority)

If you are in a place where Nick Cave is set to play and there are tickets...you MUST go. His show is so goddamned good. No regrets. None!

In escaping the current news cycle…I wrote about Charles and Ray Eames this month for @jstordaily.bsky.social, including a bit about the lovely Eames House. #Eames #architecture #AcademicSky @jstor.bsky.social daily.jstor.org/a-close-part...

You can have Rapture and Call Me, it's the bewitching percussion in "Dreaming" that floats my milkshake.

This is the best one of these I've seen

RIP, “My bad” (1985-2025)

After much considerations, I have determined that manchego is the best cheese to use in an omelette.

When The Corrections came out in 2001--in that first printing, two pages of text were transposed, warranting a little inserted note of correction. Was this intended pun? Lo, more than two decades later I still wonder.

Forget about whether UFOs exist. Consider, instead, exactly why most people refuse to even entertain the prospect. bit.ly/4iHB7p1

An excellent thread that will tell you everything you need to know about this troubling decision:

Adolescence has absolutely wrecked me.

Holy potetntial copyright infringement, batman! I put my dad's name in that Atlantic AI cribbing algo and there were 60 citations for my father with his middle initial; 4 without. WTF? He's a professor of medieval philosophy! Crikey! www.theatlantic.com/technology/a...

Wow. This was a fantastic [email protected] regarding detention of KHalil Mahmoud. Troy Edgar dodges and evades and cannot answer her questions. All journalists MUST be dogged and frank like this. Masterclass. www.npr.org/2025/03/13/n...

"Keshet and the Hebrew Free Loan Society are partnering to offer interest-free loans of up to $10,000 for individuals and families to support relocation costs to another state because of anti-LGBTQ+ laws, policies, and climate in their current state of residence."

To add insult, some guy in my bus is eating a goddamned tuna sandwich.

Late to doc and they had to cancel my appt, stopped by macys to return kid's clothes and they are closing this store and not accepting returns. These kinds of days are annoying.

For real, for real this is fascinating!!!

Where is a fiery orator that can rally us? Sure isn't Schumer.
