More evidence that recent cuts to health, science and climate don't reflect what voters want: New @yaleclimatecomm.bsky.social research finds 75% of registered US voters want federal agencies to maintain or increase efforts to protect people from the health harms of global warming. Read more:

If President Trump can wrongly deport a Maryland father to a prison in El Salvador and then defy a 9-0 Supreme Court order to facilitate bringing him home, who’s next? This threatens the rights and freedoms of everyone in the United States.

Sooner or later, we're ALL going to be Kilmar Abrego Garcia

15 years ago the Supreme Court decided corporations are people under the First Amendment. Today, billionaire political spending is up 160-fold since that ruling. Citizens United is among the worst decisions in history. It corrupts our system every day.

Fighting the Republican government funding bill was about more than numbers on a page. It meant standing up for veterans, seniors, and students. It was about protecting the Constitution. I’m deeply disappointed by the passage of this bill.

During any major weather event or natural disaster, accurate information is critical for saving lives and protecting property. DOGE’s frantic cuts to important federal agencies like NOAA and FEMA put people at risk.

Breaking News! Code UFB!!! The daily CO2 number from Mauna Loa exceeded 430 ppm yesterday. This is the first reading above 430 ever recorded. CO2 levels have not been this high since the Pliocene epoch, 3 to 5 million years ago.

Seems bad.

DOGE says it has only slashed non-essential personnel from federal agencies. That is a lie. As severe storms sweep the nation, NOAA’s forecasting and research offices are now understaffed: www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025... #SaveNOAA #NOAA #FederalLayoffs #ScienceMatters

We are rapidly surpassing 1.5°C of global warming:

If you need inspiration for your sign for Friday's March for Science, Masters' newest blog post might provide some. Good thing the Felon's Sharpie will protect us from bad weather. yaleclimateconnections.org/2025/03/noaa...

After losing 2 flight directors (my old job), the NOAA Hurricane Hunters are down to minimum staffing for continuous hurricane flights. And if I still had my old job, I'd be looking for new employment before the next onslaught of cuts. yaleclimateconnections.org/2025/03/noaa...

The Trump administration may end leases for some of NOAA's offices while the agency terminates several advisory committees at the important weather and climate agency.

Strong & clear statement by @ametsoc.org: "Recent terminations within the government workforce for science are likely to cause irreparable harm & have far-reaching consequences for public safety, economic well-being, & United States' global leadership." www.ametsoc.org/ams/...

While all of this is happening to our scientific agencies, the current extent of sea ice globally remains at record low levels... More visuals at zacklabe.com/global-sea-i...

Okay folks, we need to talk about #seaice again. In February, there was less sea ice on Earth than ever recorded. Take a quick look at this graph of sea ice in the #Arctic. It's the coldest time of year, but that maximum is looking small, below the record low for winter we saw in 2017 ⬇️ 🧵 1/3

Arctic sea ice volume through March 1, 2025. The image shows that Arctic sea ice volume in 2024 and 2025 to date has been much lower than in previous years. arctic-news.blogspot.com/2025/02/mech...

🚨 February 2025 #Arctic sea ice extent was the lowest on record... This was 1,550,000 km² below the 1981-2010 average. February ice extent is decreasing at about 2.73% per decade. Data: @nsidc.bsky.social (nsidc.org/data/seaice_...).

The firings at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration are “going to affect safety of flight, safety of shipping, safety of everyday Americans,” Admiral Tim Gallaudet, who was acting NOAA chief during the first Trump term, told the AP. “Lives are at risk for sure.”

My statement on the meeting between Presidents Trump and Zelenskyy.

Today, the Governor of Iowa signed a bill removing gender identity as a protected class in state law, the first time any state has removed a protected class in our country’s history. Trans youth in Iowa: I know you’re scared, but I want you to know that many people love you as you are.

NOAA Cuts Leave Wind Chimes As Sole Predictor Of Approaching Hurricanes

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration houses key groups like the National Weather Service. Experts warn the consequences of employee cuts could be drastic.

The acceleration of anti-trans attacks isn't what scares me most at the moment. What scares me most are non-trans people who believe the GOP will stop at the military ban and passports and gender-affirming care for youth. Nothing could be further from the truth. (thread)

Thinking about the good people of @noaa and @nws today. Such a dark day for our nation and our safety.

"The anonymous source told OU Daily they believe the minimum staffing level required for tornado events may not be met after these layoffs. The National Weather Service issues tornado warnings and watches." www.oudaily.com/news/nationa...

Well, another hit to the wildland fire community today. NWS folks fired include meteorologists who provide spot forecasts from local offices, work at the Emergency Ops Center, help us understand climate trends, and serve as Incident Meteorologists on large fires. 1/
