Life hasn’t been easy this school year. I’ve gone through a breakup, gained weight, lost hope in my country, gone on several bad dates, and struggled with depression. I hated my job the first few months, but I’m lucky to have a supportive team and a great group of kids. Ready for summer, though!

Water cycle collages

Spur of the moment quadrilateral lesson for the win! Each student made 3 quadrilaterals, then everyone circulated the room writing the names of each one! So fun! A great quadrilateral review!!

Third spring in this house, and first time adding plants to the backyard flower bed. (Actually, I did add a couple overflows from the front last year) I can’t wait for the blooms this summer! Annnnnnddddd…I’m sure I’ll make a couple other trips to the plant nursery soon!

“I made a drunk guy! He has an orange cup with alcohol in it. Alcohol is bad for you!” Lovely decoration for the playground, buddy 😂😂😂

Discovering Earth’s spheres interacting with a little time to explore nature. One of my favorite activities every year. ☺️

I don’t get teary about school things often, but surprising a former student at the opening night of her play just about did me in. So proud of this kiddo!! Matilda, Jr. was FABULOUS, and I couldn’t believe the entire cast was made up of 6th graders! Bravo! 👏👏👏👏

Vinegar and baking soda experiments are always a hit 😂

Separating mixtures lab in science today ☺️

Our feature articles turned out so good! This is my favorite writing project every year!

We rocked the Invention Convention today! So proud of our kiddos!

Kids were SOOOO nervous, but they did it! They had to talk to judges for 15 straight minutes! Several fell asleep on the bus on the way back to school 😂

One week until Invention Convention!!!

Finishing up spring break with a trip to Watkins Mill State Park and pickle ball

Explored Powell Gardens and Fort Osage National Historical Monument today during Spring Break

Spotted 2 bald eagles on Brighton in North Kansas City/Gladstone area today. Shocked that they’re in the middle of the city!

More Nelson pictures

Print-making at the Nelson today. Our kids had a great time and were pretty well-behaved! I’d call that a win!

We just wanted to take a moment to thank all our new supporters! Tomorrow, there will be more of us!

“I think I’m a Drill Master now! I bet my dad didn’t learn how to use a drill in 5th grade!”

Lazy Caturday

Invention Convention building is in full-swing! I taught 5th graders how to use a sewing machine and a drill today. I’m exhausted 😴😴😴

The cats are so happy to have windows open again. Welcome back, Spring!!!!

3rd-5th grade dance party reward turned into a giant Ring Around the Rosie. All started by one of my students. It was adorable to watch them go grab more kids, not care about holding hands, and just be little kids. I hope they remember this moment for their entire lives.

Today’s Invention Convention challenge was building a contraption that can pick up ten marbles and put them in a cup…but you must stand one meter away! Lots of building and testing and making adjustments today!

Invention Convention has be so much fun this semester! We’re a little stressed about only having 44 days until the competition, but we’ll make it work. Today, they had to design shelters for the jungle that can hold at least 5 marbles. I wash shocked at the variety of structures!

Class interrupted by a kid shouting out, “Yuck!! That’s someone’s tooth!” Then he proceeds to pick it up and examine it closer. “Yeah, it’s definitely a tooth! Everyone smile to see who has a gap!” Someone did finally confess to losing their tooth on the bus this morning, but it took awhile 😂😂😂

Started some work on feature articles today by studying examples of articles & making notes about noticings. Then, groups rotated to the next article & added information. Wrapped it up by creating a class anchor chart about feature article noticings being about 1 topic, nonfiction, & full of facts.

This kiddo cashed in some DOJO points to read to pre-k today. I am so proud of him! He has such a kind heart!

Back to school today, so I stayed up late to get the Snow Day Quilt finished! Looks good on the guest bed, and the cats both approve. ✔️

More progress on the Snow Day Quilt! Quilting is done. I picked out the diagonal stitches and leaned into wavy vertical stitches. I’m happy that part is over. Also, saw a tip about using fleece blankets from IKEA for batting…$12 for 3 blankets and that was enough for the whole quilt!

By far my least favorite part of making a quilt: quilting. I’ve tried lots of different methods over the years, and I always just get to a point where I say, “Fuck it. I just want it done.” I’m way too cheap to send it to a quilter.

Decidedly unhelpful help.

Snow Day #10 since Winter Break…progress was made on the spur-of-the-moment cat quilt. Adding blue sashing between each row and a scrappy border tomorrow.

Took the long way home today, and had to stop and admire the KC architecture

Thought about starting a puzzle for our impending snow days, then was inspired to make a quilt instead. 🤷‍♀️

Ozzie and Fiona wholeheartedly vote for Flow to win best animated feature. It captured their interest for a long time!

AMI Day 6, and the 8th snow day overall. I can’t believe how much snow we’ve gotten this year! And we’re supposed to get some more next week! At least the cats are happy to have me at home all day.

One of our Invention Convention lessons had us break apart windup toys to see how they work. Such a fun lesson, and a lot was learned about gears and other mechanics!

I wish the rapture happened today…take these Christian nationalists to heaven. Please. Let rest of us live in peace.

Saw this when I pulled out of my garage this morning. Called the non-emergency line, and they sent someone over check it out and my backyard shed. Nothing found. Not sure why someone would leave all their possessions, but I hope they come back tonight for it. Otherwise, I don’t know what to do w/it

the five love languages are cats, cakes, a stately manor home in the English countryside, teaming up to catch the murderer and putting down my book so I can talk to you.
