Busy FIR days at the @mblscience.bsky.social. At the end of last week FIRbees learned how to collect and inject follicles and oocytes and experienced the beautiful diversity of marine reproductive biology strategies.

Last night the FIRbees at the @mblscience.bsky.social did a hands on activity to learn about how the Retinoic Acid wave controls spermatogenesis and how that impacts tubule staging. Such a cool and powerful activity from Beth Snyder- @rnaisthenewdna.bsky.social!

Section 2 of Frontiers in Reproduction @mblscience.bsky.social has started! FIRbees learned how to prep single cell suspensions from testes with Brian Hermann and sperm capacitation with @marianobuffone.bsky.social. Thanks to @10xGenomics and @Hamilton Thorne for tech support!

I'm up at the MBL to kick off Section 2 of Frontiers in Reproduction tonight. Missing Mother's Day with my kiddos, but my amazing husband did interviews with them to send me. This one had me in tears. He gets what we do and he's only 11.

Finally some positive news for the lab this week. Non-competitive renewal NoA arrived (phew) and a paper accepted (yay!)

For my first science post here, I’m proud to advertise our latest work exploring why germ cell connectivity is really important for meiosis 🐁 Done with some awesome colleagues @florpratto.bsky.social www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Thanks Senator @kim.senate.gov for the science round table at Rutgers. We discussed the importance of NIH funding for R&D, workforce training, & helping patients. Politicizing the NIH threatens our global competitiveness and quest for disease cures. @schindlerlab.bsky.social @matiset.bsky.social

I did something exciting today with my two amazing genetics dept colleagues @schindlerlab.bsky.social and @matiset.bsky.social. We joined a round table discussion on science, innovation and industry with NJ Senator Andy Kim @kim.senate.gov. We have some new strategies to #standupforscience2025! 💪🧪

Great pro-science rally today in Trenton at #standupforscience2025.

Close to 600 people for the Trenton Stand Up For Science rally. Great chants, NJ schools out in force, and scientists discovering their inner extrovert. Rush Holt led off, me at end.

Scene from Rutgers "Hands Off Our Research" Protest. Professor Monica Driscoll - National Academy of Sciences member - rallies our undergrads, grad students, postdocs, staff, faculty, and community. The resistance is growing!!! @ruaaup-aft.bsky.social @aaup.bsky.social #celegans

Calling all postdoctoral WinRS! There's 1 more week left to apply for the L'Oreal Women in Science Fellowship! Click on the link in our linktree to apply by Feb. 14th #reprorocks #womeninstem #loreal💪

The Society for Developmental Biology has released a statement on the Unprecedented Disruptions to Biomedical Research in the United States.

Sharing some oocyte spindle love-an image taken by PhD student Phia Maddocks. This beautiful work is supported by our NIH funding. Without this funding, we cannot understand the complexities of fertility genetics. With declining fertility rates, this work is essential to human health.
