"Here is your country. Cherish these natural wonders, cherish the natural resources, cherish the history and romance as a sacred heritage, for your children and your children's children. Do not let selfish men or greedy interests skin your country of its beauty, its riches or its romance."

Sotomayor points out the similarities between the Skrmetti ruling allowing discrimination against transgender people's medical care to Virginia's argument for its interracial marriage ban in Loving.

In the spring of 2008, I feared America was on the verge of war with Iran — and, believing that it’s good style to get to know people before you bomb them, I made “Rick Steves’ Iran,” a one-hour special that could (and would) only debut on PBS. Sadly, this special has become pertinent again today.

I have some even more difficult news to share this evening: it appears rollerblading is making a comeback.

And lo, a tiny angel appearethed by the food bowl and sayethed unto them, “what exactly is the hold up here?” Photo from my collection, no record of date/info.

So @whitneycwimbish.bsky.social did a writeup of Brad Lander's arrest today at 26 Federal Plaza in NYC, focusing not just on Lander's treatment, but the treatment of immigrants inside, both in the courtroom and once they are detained. prospect.org/justice/2025...

They are saying that Lander (seen here being assaulted) assaulted the DHS officers. An unaccountable state reserves the right to both brutalize you and punish you for being brutalized.

Y'all notice they're rounding up most of these "freeloading" immigrants AT WORK???!!

We're a decade into this shit and I still cannot get my mind around how America put the single worst human being it has produced in the postwar era in charge not once but twice.

America is one of those countries where if you host a global sporting event, inclusive messages have to be censored to so as not to anger the central government. In this case the message is “racism is bad” www.nytimes.com/athletic/643...

It’s nice knowing that whatever’s going on in the world that we have a team of malicious idiots on it

Mr. Antiwar President has us inches away from a Civil War at home and a nuclear war abroad in defense of an ally that is starting random hot regional wars to detract from its ongoing genocide. I’m sure all of this will just naturally cool off.

Pete posted on instagram to wish Chasten Happy Father’s Day 🫶

The music. Perfection 😂

Hey look a Dodger with courage

I keep saying this, but again want to emphasize… When we only “reward” the end product instead of the process of learning, this is the result. The process is what’s important, and we learn as much, if not more, from a failed product as a successful one. (Also, please just read a book.)

Every flashbang could instead be a meal for a poor kid. Every hotel room for a National Guardsman deployed to fire at our neighbors could house a homeless vet. Every "less-than-lethal" bullet pulled from a journalist's eye could be already needed healthcare for anyone else. All of this is a choice.

Maybe they really were ICE officers. Or maybe they were a band of vigilantes, arbitrarily snatching brown-looking people off the street. All eyes are now on LA, but secret police are descending upon smaller towns nationwide too. Masked and armed, they refuse to show IDs or warrants. wapo.st/4kIGFke

You do not have to say “pro vaccine groups.” You can say the vast majority of doctors and scientists and the American Medical Association.

RFK Jr’s ACIP pick, Martin Kulldorff, said one of the most disturbing images from the pandemic was a toddler crying about having to wear a mask. I see toddlers cry about everything all the time, and I found it far more disturbing to see refrigerator trucks full of body bags outside of the hospitals…

This is all very simple. Let the world's two biggest babies fight and visibly construct and build a world without them. Anybody who tries to welcome Elon Musk, the world's most preeminent ratfucker, into their political party should be put in a dog crate until 2029.

All you people are anti-AI, but consider that without it, your ancestors would have to write their own history essays about the great schism of June 5, 2025.

Huge opportunity for a political party that believes government can do good things. Public opinion is finally shifting after 50 years of right wing anti-government propaganda. This isn't the time for cowering and throat clearing www.cnn.com/2025/06/01/p...

Ron DeSantis stranded drivers at a bridge with no warning just to stop rainbow colors from appearing on it.

My coworker was just talking about this. Her son’s inhaler is no longer covered under our insurance at work.

it’s time to replace all doctors with ai

PRIDE MONTH DOUBLE RAINBOW IN CHICAGO HOLY SHIT

it is absolutely true that lincoln tried not to get too far afield of public opinion on slavery, calibrating his positions and actions according to what he thought was the mainstream. but it is important to note that at no point did lincoln ever disavow or deny his *sincerely held antislavery views*

people who act like no one uses em dashes are essentially saying “I don’t read books!”

The reason we ostensibly passed RFRA in the first place was because Native Americans were being discriminated against by so-called neutral laws. The fact that it’s now used to allow Christians to ignore duties to their employees, but CAN’T be used for the original purpose, is just bullshit.

So Ruby Bridges is still out here doing work... www.fox13memphis.com/news/civil-r...?

“Sorry, we don’t have enough money for universal healthcare, we’re too busy paying people whose family members tried to overthrow the federal government”

Devastating. The cowardice and the betrayal of an incomparable news brand.

their *lawyer* has also been disappeared now? uh holy shit

We've reached the "criminal charges against congresspeople" stage of the proceedings.

The children's series has found a new streaming home — Netflix, PBS stations and PBS KIDS will air new episodes on the same day. And Netflix will also run 90 hours from the Sesame Street library.

Historically low power demand on the New England grid. Why? Rooftop solar.

We’ve got a vertical poop!

It's remarkable how much of this administration's agenda has been laser focused on simply making life worse for ordinary Americans.

Eighty-four days, 210 pills and I-don't-wanna-talk-about-it dollars later, this little dude is finished with his neuropathic FIP wonderdrug treatment. Science is rad.

The new Neil Halloran documentary on Smallpox has completely changed how I see the RFK Jr. version of the world. Neil (softly) argues that realizing that disease isn't the fault of the sick /or/ the fault of the Gods ushered in a new future where we felt the authority to care for each other.

I had this same fight at a theatre where I worked 20 years ago. there were two accessible parking spots and an able-bodied employee used one every day because it was “more convenient” and “it’s not like we ever get two different people in wheelchairs coming by the office at the same time!”
