Toots are ephemeral, subject to deletion on a whim. I've been online for ~40 years. I've seen things some people wouldn't believe. 1200 baud modems on fire […] 🌉 bridged from https://farticle.cloud/@scuttlebutt on the fediverse by https://fed.brid.gy/

Being a touch typist, this would pose next to zero problems for me. Other than when I reach for a lesser used symbol and double-think it and get myself into trouble. What is the cuniform for open squiggle bracket anyways? RE: universeodon.com/users/PapaTonyInSD/statuses/114713741988530227

Still salty that we got Picard instead of #StarTrekAway: On Stardate 58197.2 a crack First Contact unit was sent to prison by a Starfleet court for a Prime Directive violation they didn't commit. These beings promptly escaped from a maximum security ice moon stockade to the Bajorran underground […]

Some clout chasers here in fedi. “Look at me, I’ve got viral content on Ted, TedX, YouTube, etc.” Umm. No. <plonk>

Waving a shoe horn madly and hissing like a mad cobra chicken, I chased the mule deer away from the camping bbq grill. Again. Two evenings in a row.

Today is dystopia land

The more you try to make a service highly available and resilient to outages, the more complex it becomes to manage it all. Eventually there is always some random bit that isn’t working quite right and you spend so much time on it all. This is a reason why I don’t run public access instances […]

Found one of my notebooks. Need to do more of this. #handwriting #fountainpen

Seeing news articles weekly, if not more frequently, about begging Canadians to please come to the USA and spend money. No. Fuck that noise. #ElbowsUp

Remember back in the 80s where you had dust covers for computers, including keyboards and screens, because they got turned off for a good portion of the time (like when sleeping, at school/work, etc? Also, no eating at the computer desk. Well. I have peanut butter on my laptop. I may or may […]

How many under 30 can read this marketing slogan? The place does get flooded by students from the nearby middle school but I doubt they pay attention to this so…

After Andor, Rogue One seems very shallow and cartoony.

The year is 2031, the last remaining Tech Bro is due to be catapulted into the ocean later in the day while crowds cheer. The war has been brutal but at last there is peace. The “ai” TLD has been retired and LLMs are being stored in an artificial cave on the far side of the moon, under lock and […]

Two weeks ago we were travelling LHR -> YYC The extra $$ for premium economy for a long flight is well worth it. Extra leg and shoulder room. #WindowFriday #FensterFreitag

How many run time hours do you have on your drives? My desktop's direct attached thunderbolt array has about 72K hours under its belt. I run a scrub every 6 months or so and haven't found any bad blocks yet. It's also backed up on a regular schedule.

Importing ~500 GB of raw vacation photos sure did take a while. Hours. Capture one wanted to do a bunch of processing to generate previews and such during import. Now backing them up in triplicate with my usual flow before starting work on tagging and ranking.

Red flags

Airport security theatre today decided my tiny beard scissors with 1/4 or shorter blades with super obvious blunt tips tips were not ok to take on a plane. Even after I stabbed my palm quite hard without breaking the skin. Can’t even open wide enough to cut anything more than a baby finger […]

Copying a week of vacation photos to a backup drive, just in case. Once a #sysadmin, always a sysadmin.
