Just ordered this... Muybridge was an almost picaresque character who was even acquitted of shooting dead his wife's lover... he did it! Also, how could I resist a book entitled "River of Dreams"! Thanks to @kate1904.bsky.social for the original post!

This is an amazing image. For Muybridge to take this picture, he needed to travel with glass plates that were 18"x22" Imagine the camera... mammoth! The glass plate had to be coated, exposed, and developed while still wet, on-site, in a dark tent. Dry too soon, and the image was lost. Very hard!

Château de Vincennes keep - donjon - was built from 1356 to protect Paris from attacks from the East. It was the tallest in Europe. It was where Mata Hari was executed in 1917.
