High time Lisa Nandy got the BBC under control. I bet every civil servant in the land was pleased to see Simon Case sitting there on the Kuenssberg programme.

I don’t know why any President bothers to visit that moronic President of the USA. Boycott the bastard.

There's no placating the Brexiters, no reasoning with them, no basic comprehension or adulthood. You can't debate papers behaving like the Sun or the Mail this morning. There's nothing to debate with. They view all trading relations with Europe as humiliation.

New YouGov poll: - 66% would support the UK having closer relationship with the EU - This includes half of both Leave (52%) and Reform UK (54%) voters - Majority (53%) support Britain rejoining the European Union - Six in ten believe Brexit has been more of a failure than a success

Given that we’re a nation of nature lovers, whose conservation charities are among the world's biggest membership organisations, Keir Starmer’s repeated attacks on voters who want to protect the living planet, calling us “time-wasting nimbys”, “blockers” and “zealots”, is frankly idiotic.

Thames Water: a water firm spending £200 million on lawyers to stop the government putting it into administration. Our bills are funding this – all so they can keep ripping us off. It's long past time for the government to step in and put Thames Water out of its misery.

Richard Littlejohn mostly lives in a gated mansion in Florida. Andrew Neil mostly lives in Grasse in the South of France.

The BBC can’t help themselves. Don’t seem to be able to find a single positive about the EU deal. When will Lisa Nandy sort this nest of vipers?

A quick reminder of what today is really about: Russia threatens Europe. America is gone. It will not save us. Britain and Europe must work closely and with trust, on defense and everything else, in order to counter the Kremlin threat.

Since when has sushi had chilli in it? Pretty fed up buying sushi and not being able to eat it because somebody added it.

Absolutely @london.gov.uk 👏

🇨🇦🇺🇦 Zelensky met with Carney! "We must put pressure on Russia, on Putin, to really conclude peace as soon as possible. Sanctions are very important. The next sanctions against Russia must be strong and include energy and the shadow fleet in order to persuade it to take real steps towards peace."

We have a chance to improve our relationship + trading terms with the EU, give musicians + young people more freedom and make travel easier… And Brexiters are howling about betrayal, fish, ‘holding all the cards’ and immigration. Same lies. Same prejudice. And same failure if we don’t ignore them.

First UK-EU summit interview done, a few more to do in the next 48 hours. I'll try to communicate what the government won't...

Could some citizens of the USA please tell that ignorant POTUS that Putin is making a complete fool of him. He may think he is a gifted person but he is a complete ignoramus and his behaviour is prolonging the war against Ukraine. Nobel Peace Prize? He must be joking.

Why would Labour want to mimic this nasty party? “The British public is more liberal and tolerant than you would believe from our politicians. Time for Keir Starmer to appeal to Britain’s best side” www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Another week. Another ‘crackdown’ on immigration. Because Brexit exploded it. It created labour shortages and ended our shared EU arrangements. Then all the far right uglies went to town whipping up anti-immigrant sentiment for power. Until govts are honest about this, they will continue to fail.

Labour axing care worker visa will put services at risk, say unions and care leaders White paper proposes ban on recruitment from abroad despite care sector relying heavily on foreign workers www.theguardian.com/society/2025...

The government’s abject surrender in the immigration conversation will not necessarily lose them votes. But it won’t win any either because a) for good or for ill, the small boats are the really emotive issue & b) people who simply resent immigrants will always favour Farage. He’s one of their own.

People who never read books now in charge of books.

Youth mobility is not "freedom of movement"

Badenoch says the country was "screwed" by the India trade deal and "shafted" by the US one. The words of a politician too immature to be taken seriously.

China’s exports surged by 8% in April, above the consensus forecast of 2% and despite a 21% drop in sales to the US. This surge comes as China redirects more of its exports to other countries, which is likely to exacerbate concerns about the adverse implications for certain domestic industries.

An anniversary worth marking. I'm sure we're going to see the very people who have trashed its legacy seek to appropriate WW2 today - so let's remember what was really fought for: peace, a more united Europe, a land fit for heroes (mark 2) and the defeat of fascism.

Weather Forecast 6 May: Mainly dry today. Light winds. theorkneynews.scot/2025/05/06/w...

FRIENDLY REMINDER: Nigel Farage works for the billionaire elites NOT the working class. He is funded by fossil fuel lobbyists and billionaire tax dodgers who only care about lining their pockets - not what’s best for the rest of us.

Brexiters wail that any reset with the EU is a ‘Brexit betrayal’ as if that shitshow is hallowed turf. They’d also have you believe a US deal matters more. When the best we could hope for with Trump is not very much, let’s not risk progress with the EU for them. iandunt.substack.com/p/the-battle...

On the campaign trail today, Farage told a group of voters in the North that he understood the worries of the steelworkers because he used to be “in the metals business”. That would be the London Metals Exchange in the city where he worked as a commodities trader. (h/t Tom Baldwin)

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/poli... “Lampooning the government through satire is a long tradition in this country’, said the judge” And it had better stay that way! #BrexitBreaksBritain

Just watched the Home Counties private schoolboy Nigel Farage telling northern voters how he understands steelworkers because he used to work in the “metals business” himself. He was, ahem, a commodities trader at the London Metal Exchange in the City.

I see it. I have lived it. 83 years ago, the U.S. government turned upon a group of its own citizens and residents and sent them to internment camps without due process. I was there among them. American fascism is back. It is here. It is now.

Certainly worth repeating in the times we are in..

What a patriot! For Russia 🇷🇺, that is

I bet there are people in Whitehall who can’t understand why the EU cares so much about a youth mobility scheme. Yes, UK unis are good, but so are EU ones. Educational and cultural exchanges benefit everyone, and offering students the chance to get off with hot foreign students is nice. 1/2
