We are dismantling American higher education & scientific research & health care & all the other things to fund concentration camps

The U.S. has seen a manufacturing boom since the Inflation Reduction Act, especially in the emerging Southeastern battery belt. But these projects and associated jobs are potentially at risk with proposed changes to tax credits.

The new bill in Congress puts a new tax on wind and solar. They’re taxing clean energy to give your money to billionaires.

There are way too many things to be upset about these days, but I believe the destruction of public lands should be near the top of the list: www.washingtonpost.com/climate-envi...

PSA for Pittsburgh bus riders, your downtown bus stop may have changed today because of PRT service adjustments. Check your route to be sure.

As the June 30 state budget deadline draws closer, it’s not just SEPTA facing a fiscal cliff. The other 32 fixed-route transit systems across the commonwealth are at risk — which means the Pennsylvania Senate Republicans blocking funding will hurt their own districts, too.

The subway is not scary. Literal children ride it millions of times every day. Fascists and bigots lie about it constantly and have for years because they’re trying to destroy NYC and our subway, and most things wrong with the subway can be traced to their attacks resulting in its underfunding.

Brad Lander is a good man--and he's a New Yorker, pissed off, funny, ready to take the bad guys on.

I've never understood this. Everyone wants less congestion, safer streets, & a nicer living environment -yet taking common sense steps to do this is regularly demeaned as "woke." What's so bad abt breathing cleaner air, having less noise & creating safe routes for your kids to walk/bike to school?

Lander and Padilla have set the standard that absolutely every Democratic politician should meet or exceed if they don't want to get primaried.

With the exception of a hint of a badge peeking out from beneath backwards hat guy’s untucked shirt, there’s no visual indication that any of these guys are law enforcement officers—much less authorized to use force inside a frickin courthouse.

America's secret police just detained a guy who might be Mayor of New York City and his NYPD escort. We have to abolish ICE. That should be the baseline Democratic Party position.

A tax break for car interest payments is a spectacularly terrible policy idea: ❌ Regressive ❌ Encourages people to get a bigger car than they need ❌ Disincentivizes modes that are less dangerous/polluting (walking, biking, transit)

We need to fund transit in generational cycles, not political ones. That means long term, stable funding so agencies can plan around knowing how much cash they have. Let's not cripple our agencies with only a few years of funding. We're investing for future generations not yet born.

Great video! Thank you @nerd4cities.bsky.social for highlighting the importance of public transportation funding in PA. www.transitforallpa.org/takeaction/

i'm surprised by how low energy and farcical that whole military parade situation was. I was expecting Moscow 1945 and we got Spirit Halloween instead.

Watch this - incredibly well done.

“IF THEY SPIT, WE WILL HIT, and I promise you they will be hit harder than they have ever been hit before. Such disrespect will not be tolerated!”—trump. Yet he pardoned more the 1500 violent criminals who attacked me and my colleagues.

When we push for walkability, bike lanes, and good transit, it's called "forcing a lifestyle." But when the auto industry traps you in a car-dependent society and drains your wallet, that’s somehow called “freedom.” Got it...

A massive show of opposition to our terrible President and his enablers in our congressional delegation coming to Saturday in Pennsylvania. Dozens of events in every corner of the commonwealth. The flagship national event will be in Philly, ignoring Trump’s weird strongman military parade.

I will be damned if I allow a bunch of Confederate-waving January 6th apologists give the American people a lecture on flag waving. There is ZERO reason to enter an argument about patriotism with people who still worship traitors to America 150+ years later. They. Are. Breaking. The. Law.

Don’t forget why change is so hard to discuss, in city-building, or in anything. Study after study shows we’re actually wired to be “loss averse”— the idea of losing something bothers us twice as much as gaining something equal makes us happy. But there’s loss in being stuck in a costly status quo.

Things that DO make traffic worse: - TOO MANY CARS - SUBURBAN SPRAWL - CAR DEPENDENCY (even for short trips) - Bigger vehicles - On-street parking - ride-hailing Things that DON’T make traffic worse (actually mitigate congestion): Bike lanes Bus lanes Decongestion pricing #TheTRUTHaboutTRAFFIC

Making It Safer To Bike Gets More People To Ride Bikes, Shocking Study Shows

Love Kermit, but I’ve always been more of a Slimer fan. Mostly for the vibes.

The volleyball coverage we need or the coverage we deserve? Either way I’m here for it!

When Lyft or Uber asks you to contact elected officials to "keep rideshare affordable" remember that they profit from undermining public transit and increasing congestion. Use them where necessary, but don't let them use you.

The online transit space is really missing non-white, non-male, working class and disabled voices. If that’s you, holler! And if you want to start/grow a platform there’s a bunch of people (myself included) who will help you. Just say the word.

In a healthy information environment, this would be front-page news.

Happy #Pittsburgh #Pride Day! 🌈 This year June 1st is an official holiday in Pittsburgh. 6715 is the current #PRT Pride Bus, though 5675 was bus previous pride bus from yesteryear. flic.kr/p/2jcnjer

Someone should tell Sean Duffy about the big scary monsters in the subway. I saw one this morning.

Trump's parade of losses in court really drives home just how fucking embarrassing it is that major law firms, media companies, and universities—rule of law, free press & higher ed being pretty much the backbone of a thriving democracy—didn't align their messaging against this bullshit from Day 1.

What a great conversation! "These rules are arbitrary everywhere. They're causing problems everywhere. You just need the right collection of people with the right messengers to make this politically possible." - Catie Gould

EXCLUSIVE: Leaked footage of militant anti-car cyclists in training session.

Design vehicles to fit cities. Don’t design cities to fit vehicles.

"If you're conservative, they want you to spend 20% of your income on a car. It's a waste of money, and deadly. 42K people die every year from traffic violence. Car dependency makes you unhealthy, depressed and anti-social. It turns you into a paranoid, aggressive, anxious misanthrope."

i’m a woman in a major city who takes public transit twice a day and is rarely scared, most likely bc i have not sequestered myself in places where people are taught to fear everyone who isn’t Just Like Them

Sean Duffy is the living, breathing version of Conservative Guy Scared of Cities.

Today on Volts: parking is the "dark matter" of land use, invisibly making everything worse, but most municipalities continue to mandate minimum levels of it. WA state just passed some awesome parking reform & I dig into it with @citizen-cate.bsky.social & Alan Durning of @sightline.org.

Item 1: A highway that will cost billions, take 20 years and contribute to the destruc....Approved! Item 2: A 3km mobility lane that will cost almost nothing, reduce traffic and align with our climate emerg..Do you have approval from every living and deceased resident in the city?

Looking forward to this later today!

Plastics recycling is a greenwashing scam by the petrochemical industry to let them keep poisoning us. Remember, all of us now have a plastic spoon in our brains.

I don’t think it’s a particularly hot take to say the person who posted a timelapse of themself playing GTA V on the interstate in their Cybertruck should be in prison

i just cannot comprehend having this kind of disregard for the lives of other people. i don't even drive the speed limit in my neighborhood for fear i'll hit somebody's kid or dog
