I say this without irony or sarcasm: I think John Cena would make a pretty good Frankenstein's Monster in a set-in-modern-day adaptation of that story. bloody-disgusting.com/movie/387018...

My favorite example of this comes from over a century ago when the Self-Playing Piano industry argued that if they had to pay royalties on the hit songs they were programming their machines to play, they would go under. This really is a second verse same as the first situation.

Americans DO WANT COVID BOOSTERS. We NEED COVID boosters. Because Long Covid can destroy your life. youtu.be/vqeIeIcDHD0?...

Actor Graham Skipper remembers George Wendt, his kind, talented, generous friend and co-star.

Businesses forcing Ai on employees is infuriating. At least with previous techbro scams—the NFTs, the crypt—you didn’t have to get involved unless you bought into the lie. But now with AI, they’ve has decided the problem isn’t that they’re selling shitty scams, it’s that they gave us a choice.

Ah, the fun of trading emails and phone calls one day at a time between contractors who want as much money as possible and and the insurance company who wants to pay out as little as possible. With my house looking like a torn-out husk downstairs in the meantime.

Setting aside the obvious Sinners parallels, this looks like a pretty great period horror/adventure flick. youtu.be/Fd6QDCjpjXs?...

Saying goodbye to an absolute legend of a costume designer tonight. Trying to decide which of the many films of hers I've loved to re-watch... bloody-disgusting.com/news/3867818...

Haven't done one of these in a while... SILENT MOVIE COUNTDOWN, one per year 🎞️ 1930: WARA WARA (Bolivia)

Each time you ask an AI chatbot a question, it sends a request to a data center and strains an increasingly scarce resource: water. A 🧵on our investigation into how the data centers that power AI are increasingly being built in highly water-stressed places: www.bloomberg.com/graphics/202...

I don't know what's worse, having a president who approves a post of himself as some kinda sith lord on Star Wars Day... or having to see the image everywhere because everyone is reacting to it and providing it with the engagement he seeks.

Hey, they’re having a sale on my D&D comic run (thanks Mike!). we had a lot of fun on this, and I think it’s a nice bit of work from all involved. “Working class heroes in a D&D world.”

The next Borderlands game looks pretty slick, but after the past few misfires, I will probably be waiting several months before I decide if I'm going to buy it. It took almost a year for Borderlands 3 to settle into an endgame groove that didn't suck.

With the SRD 5.2 now out, we’re doing our May Dev Stream tomorrow at 9 am PDT / 12 pm EDT / 6 pm CEST! Let’s get a good look at the document to discuss new content and what a passage to the 2024 ruleset would imply! Questions are always welcome! www.twitch.tv/tacticaladve...

Okay, Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter starring in a Broadway production of Waiting for Godot is pretty fantastic casting, actually. godotbroadway.com?fbclid=IwY2x...

Looking for a silent film? I have reviewed over 750 of them! My index: moviessilently.com/index-of-mov...

I was a stand-up comic, I've had 10,000 people hate me to my FACE. Feeding normies into what one could even consider a second-stage fame machine is nothing short of cruelty, and we turned it into a *requirement* for some jobs.

Well, as if having to replace our furnace and our air conditioner within 4 months wasn't bad enough, our plumbing decided to flood my basement with sewer water today. 2025 SUCKS, in case anyone was on the fence about it.

“John, I want to pitch an episode. It’s about a pop star who’s also a predatory landlord and also went into space.” “Come on, we do the research so we have grounded sto — oh fuck you weren’t kidding.”

You know who else raided art galleries? Elon Musk's staffers are now trying to push into the National Gallery of Art.

Art.

Today is a really busy news day for nerds like me, yikes. So much to try and catch up with.

Congratulations people who "wanted politics out of games", you made gaming the most political it has ever been, well done

I'm just now discovering that Hero Lab Classic's Savage Worlds ruleset has been updated to work with SWADE. How did I not know this for *5 years*?? Welp. Guess it's time to take it for a spin... again.

I suspect Gaiman filing for arbitration against Caroline Wallner has nothing to do with him trying to get money from her -- she doesn't have any. And it may not be about silencing others, either (though that may be a side benefit). Wallner filed for arbitration against Gaiman for his breaking...

Okay, had someone demanding to know if a one-reel silent film passed the Bechdel Test, so once more from the top... The Bechdel Test is not a measure of a film's feminism. It is an intentionally low bar designed to show how little women have to do in modern movies.

New from me: an essay on the House UnAmerican Activities Committee, and its remarkable 30 year history of witch hunts & blacklists. It chronicles the progression of how industries & academia went from capitulation to defiance,& what we can take from that today www.lawfaremedia.org/article/proc...

The new Toxic Avenger flick swaps out 'everyone is a cartoon character' splatstick for 'the protagonist is confronted by cartoonishly evil reality and is transformed into a suitable avenger' satirical splatstick. Works for me. youtu.be/E_B2Z2CKOIM?...

I'm so sad that @greaterthangames.bsky.social got the axe thanks to Flat River Group & insane tariffs. I ❤️ many of their games, especially Spirit Island and Sentinels of the Multiverse. I once owned everything they produced, though they eventually outpaced me. www.geeknative.com/172400/great...

So it begins. My heart goes out to the fun folks at Greater Than, who produced wonderful games like Sentinels of the Multiverse and more.

Becky Burke speaks. Everyone should read this, but everyone working in comics should especially read this.

Looks like Tron: Ares is going full Automan this time. Huh.

These folks aren't wrong.

He went bankrupt. Six times. In the casino business.

AI apparently stands for “arrogant idiocy.” I’ve been fact-checking the little AI summaries Google now adds at the top of if result pages, and I sure wouldn’t want to rely on those, they’re full of inventions.

I think my favorite detail of the John Carpenter walk-of-fame star reveal ceremony was Greg Nicotero smuggling in a clever They Live reference on the backs of the index cards he was reading his speech from.

So, that new Terminator 2 remake (M3GAN 2) looks like a hoot. Guess I'll have to make time and watch the first one, now.
