On affordability ? Alberta now has the second-slowest wage growth in the country outside the Maritime provinces. Stagnant paychecks, soaring inflation, and rising costs mean families can’t keep up with bills. This government performance is terrible. Albertans deserve better!

Another day and another report card! Week 21 (May 18-24), Alberta accounted over 50% of all new measles cases in Canada. Let that sink in. Thanks to misinformation & vaccine hesitancy, we are backsliding on public health. Our health system deserves better.

As our digital world evolves, we’re spending more time online, so are our kids. So, we must also prioritize safety on the internet. That is why I joined last week Edmonton Public Schools & Google Canada at Florence Hallock School for the launch of the Online Safety Roadshow. Safety is important!

AUC to return $71M to utility customers after improper charges. Strong, independent oversight protects Albertans. But, Bill 52 weakens the AUC’s ability to protect consumers as the government undertakes Restructured Energy Market. Better is Possible! www.theglobeandmail.com/business/art...

Out of the 354 new measles cases recorded, Alberta reported 135 cases. Between May 11 to 17, Alberta reported more new cases than all of Canada except Ontario. Despite representing 12% of Canada’s population, Alberta accounted for 38% of the new cases. Now, you tell me why!

It is another day, another report, another UCP government failure. Alberta ranks dead last on building affordable housing units, reducing red tapes, & improving building codes. How much longer do we have to wait for real action on housing affordability? We can do better!

Alberta has the fastest-growing unemployment rate in the country, and it’s hitting young men the hardest. We can do better. Better is possible. #VoteforBetter

A new report shows Under the UCP, Alberta’s renewable energy sector has faced unprecedented policy and regulatory uncertainty. 53 projects cancelled due to moratorium; more cancellations, reducing project queues for the first time; and reducing investor confidence. www.pembina.org/pub/down-not...

The numbers don’t lie. Since Danielle Smith took office, more and more working Calgarians are turning to food banks just to get by. -Paychecks aren’t enough. -Costs keep climbing. Working people shouldn’t turn to food bank in one of the richest provinces in Canada.

The corrupt care scandal continues! Alberta paid 6 times more for children’s Tylenol from Turkey. Premier Smith ordered 5M bottles, enough for 8 per child, despite warnings of oversupply. Most arrived after the shortage eased. We can do better! www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/alber...

Yesterday, I had the privilege to join my Alberta Legislature colleagues for a joint dinner with delegates from Japan’s Hokkaido Legislative Assembly. Grateful to the Speaker’s Office for hosting. We deeply appreciated the thoughtful engagement from our Japanese friends.

Alberta is the only province clawing back $200 disability benefits from the federal government. Premier Smith government claims AISH is 'generous enough.' A new report shows 81% of Calgary Food Bank users are disabled Albertans struggling to afford basics. We can do better!

A new report from Calgary Food Bank shows 58,000 working Calgarians needed food hampers. This is up by 27% compared to previous year. 37% of food bank users are employed, while just 21% are unemployed. Work should protect people from hunger. globalnews.ca/news/1119191...

The government house leader claims Bill 54 restores confidence. No, it doesn’t. First Nations leaders believe it erodes their relationship with the premier and her government. Business and investors believe it undermines investment confidence and deters investments in Alberta.

Splitting the health ministry into four is a scheme to avoid accountability. Four ministers will confuse Albertans and make it easier to shift blame. This also won’t cut bureaucracy, it’ll just add more layers of management. This will only create confusion for Albertans.

@dianabatten.bsky.social and I will be hosting a virtual town hall on May 30th to discuss and engage issues relating to child care services issues affecting your community. RSVP here: www.albertasfuture.ca/events/townh...

This is the taxpayers money. This is a public money. This is historic scandal This can only be cleared through independent judicial led public inquiry. PERIOD.

Across Alberta—from Calgary to Edmonton, from small towns to mid-sized cities—codes of conduct have set basic standards for integrity, respect, and accountability in local government. Bill 50 eliminates these codes. We voted against this bill but sadly the government members passed Bill 50.

“The two elements necessary for democracy to flourish are 1) a healthy educated participatory flowership and 2) educated and morally grounded leadership” Chinua Achebe

Bill 54 threatens to plunge Alberta into a constitutional crisis. Instead of undermining Canada, Alberta should be at the forefront of strengthening it. That’s precisely why my caucus and I voted against it last night. Alberta needs leaders who foster unity, not division. Here is a clip.

In the dead of night, the UCP passed the most comprehensive set of anti democratic reforms in Alberta history. No public consultation. No meaningful debate. How bad is Bill 54? Not horrible if you like Trump-style democracy. open.substack.com/pub/drjaredw...

The right to vote is not just privilege. It is at the heart of our democracy and our democracy is the strongest when everyone can participate. Bill 54 is a direct attack on democracy and peoples ability to vote and will leave Albertans behind. Better is possible, and Albertans deserve better now.

Yesterday, the premier expressed that raising the minimum wage will potentially result in higher youth unemployment. No. Youth unemployment was below 10% in 2018 when the NDP implemented a minimum wage increase. With the current frozen minimum wage, youth unemployment is almost 20%.

Alberta is facing the fastest growing measles outbreak in the country, I have noticed a consistent avoidance of the term vaccination from this Government. Today in the legislature I demanded that the minister acknowledge the underlying problem is vaccine misinformation.

Premier Smith promised ‘guaranteed’ public health care but, Bill 55 guarantees privatization.

The UCP government’s failure to foster youth employment and support economic growth has led to record-high youth unemployment, outside the pandemic period. This is unacceptable. It is time for the government to implement effective youth employment programs to address this alarming situation.

Bill 55 eliminates hospital boards, replaces them with ‘operators,’ & dissolves hospital foundations. If this isn’t a blueprint for privatized healthcare, what exactly does it entail? Eliminating public oversight & charitable funding structures paved the way for privatization.

Is your life more affordable now ?

The Rate of Last Resort was meant to be a safety net. Instead, it’s punishing those who can least afford it: low-income Albertans, newcomers, seniors, and people with limited credit. Many didn’t choose this rate—they were forced into it by a system too complex to navigate. We can do better!

Today, I asked why families like Maisa’s are facing unacceptable wait times for FSCD intake. Maisa and her daughter sat in the gallery hoping for answers — but none were given. Every child in Alberta deserves timely support and the chance to thrive. We won’t stop fighting to make that a reality.

In Alberta, premier Danielle Smith fuels separatism while while violating treaty rights and sidelining Indigenous communities. In Manitoba, premier Wab Kinew leads the search for the remains of missing indigenous sisters. What a contrast in leadership!!

Albertans are living through an affordability crisis, this didn't happen overnight. it's the result of decades of UCP governing and specific choices and policies they have made. Better is possible.

At Alberta NDP convention discussing the the long term plan for quality public healthcare system. #betterStartsNow

April 28 - Canada elects Carney as Prime Minister. April 29- Smith tables bill 54 to set the stage for separatism. May 1- Smith seeks court ruling on federal clean electricity. May 2- UCP caucus meets to discuss separation options. Remember, Carney is yet to be sworn in …..!

Yesterday, we stood in solidarity with the Filipino community to honour the lives lost in the tragic events at Vancouver’s Lapu Lapu Festival. In moments of such sorrow, the strength, faith, and compassion of our communities remind us that healing is possible when we come together.

The University of Alberta Campus Food Bank reports a staggering 600% surge in demand as students grapple with cost of living. Concerned volunteers fear they may not be able to meet the growing need. This isn’t merely a problem for food banks; it’s a systemic affordability.

My heart breaks for the Filipino-Canadian families who lost loved ones in yesterday’s tragic event in #Vancouver. What should have been a day of joy has turned into a profound grief. Sending strength and solidarity to all affected during this difficult time. 💔🇵🇭🇨🇦

Measles cases are rising, so is vaccine hesitancy. This is a dangerous combination & we must reject. Vaccination remains one of the most effective public health tools humanity has ever developed. Vaccination is how we prevented generations from deadly diseases. calgaryherald.com/opinion/colu...

As measles outbreaks grow, we must prioritize science & community safety over political ideology. Public health decisions must be guided by evidence, not ideology. Politicizing public health measures puts lives at risk. This is about people, period.

Your coffee price hike isn’t an accident. Trump attacked us economically. So why is our provincial government siding with MAGA trade wars instead of Team Canada? This isn’t just about coffee. It’s about our livelihood. #Affordable #Alberta is #Possible .

With the rising cost of food and everyday essentials, many families are struggling to afford basic school supplies. Last week, I had the privilege of helping backpacks filled with school essentials for children in need. Thanks TELUS team for the ongoing support to families.

Based solely on the actions of the UCP, the underused #yeg 132 Avenue traffic lanes have a higher priority (and/or) more rights than: -People experiencing addiction or houslessness -The vaccinated -Trans kids -Municipalities -Canadian Sovereignty -Public transparency of AHS -Tops of Mountains

"This is not about where you are on the political spectrum, left or right. This is about doing the right thing. Let’s open the books and get to the bottom of this. I think a judicial inquiry would do that.” MLA Guthrie

Affordable childcare is not a luxury. Childcare gives parents, the ability to work, study and provide for their families. By eliminating child care subsidies, this government will increase costs by hundreds of dollars onto Alberta parents. Albertans deserve better.

While families struggle with soaring costs, the UCP is making child care even more expensive, forcing Alberta’s lowest income parents to pay up to $4,000 more per child. The UCP government promised affordability. Instead, they’re slashing support when families can least afford it.

The Auditor General is now being denied access to critical information needed for the investigation. The UCP is withholding evidence, likely to conceal corruption. The situation is deteriorating & accountability is being undermined.

The UCP government affordability plan is 78 cents per day in tax “relief” while the cost of living has surged under this government. Groceries, rent, utilities are crushing Albertans—and the minister responsible on affordability says "we cant pay people's bills. Albertans deserve better.

The UCP plans a complete overhaul of the auto insurance system in the province. Bill47 will take away the right to sue. Albertans already pay the highest premiums in the country and Bill47 won't solve that problem. write your MLA and copy me and MLA @courtellingson.bsky.social.
