For certain con-goers on here.

The #Leiden town hall carillion just played the quarter hour. Europapa. 😄💙 #Eurovision

Today, 100,000 people asked the government to draw a red line and act to stop Israel’s genocidal violence. Huge protest by Dutch standards. Also the calmest I’ve seen. Relatively few signs and flags - just a lot of people wearing symbolic red. #RodeLijn

This EU Citizens Initiative to ban conversion practices is less than 30k signatures short of the magic 1 million. The servers are struggling at the moment as the deadline is the 17th, but hang in there and help them over the line! #LGBTQ+ eci.ec.europa.eu/043/public/#...

I’ve cycled over so many of these black cables in #Leiden recently. The cables register the amount, weight, and direction of traffic. They’re called “telslangen”, literally, counting hoses. Or, as slangen also means snakes, counting snakes. So, beware of the adders. :)

Amsterdam's mayor wants the government to put pressure on Israel to stop destroying Gaza, and to stop starving and murdering Palestinians. A number of cities are backing Amsterdam and I'm happy to see Leiden's new(ish) mayor has made a solid statement. [NL] nos.nl/nieuwsuur/ar...

Remember when Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke did that haka to protest the attempted rewrite of AoNZ's founding document? The Privileges Committee has recommended a record-breaking 7 days suspension. Te Pāti Māori's co-leaders? 21 days! Parliament votes on it next Tuesday. I see more haka incoming #NZpol

I went #litterpicking after lunch and it was incredible the number of cigarette butts that were around just one bench. Next time, I won't be surprised if I have to pick up a pair of someone's blackened lungs.

Under the Mountain by Maurice Gee. The slug-like Wilberforces, everything, so damn creepy!

The winner of the #Leiden half marathon, Mikky Keetels, had signed up last minute and was actually training for a marathon next week. The other winner, Brent Pieterse, was training for a triathlon. I just love how some people's tapers get them gold medals. 😂

It felt weird not being in #Leiden for the marathon but I followed bits of it on Sleutelstad. Runners still struggled with the heat but lots of water was provided by the organisation and the public. The wind was also a factor, it either helped, or it didn’t!

Best of luck to the #Leiden Marathon runners today! It's going to be another warm one, but hopefully the earlier start times and other precautions will be enough.

Went to Wellington Airport last night to say our farewells to Gandalf and Gwaihir the Windlord (anyone know the name of the other eagle) before they depart for the Undying Lands.

On a whim I re-read Carpe Jugulum and one thing I've been losing sight of in all the retrospective "pTerry is a deeply human, *humane* writer, angry at the right things, compassionate where it counts, philosophical blah blah etc" stuff is how fucking *funny* he is as a writer.

Happy 99th birthday to the man who gave voice to the wild. 🎉 Sir David Attenborough, thank you for a lifetime dedicated to the natural world, and for sharing its story with wisdom, wonder, and grace. You've inspired generations to fall in love with nature.

More tulips today, this time floating ones on a pond in the Vondelpark, Amsterdam. Loved seeing this wisteria waterfall on the way out too.

There was a military tattoo in #Leiden to open the festivities which mark 80 years since liberation. It was very good, though we all felt for the one guy whose beret fell off at the start. He’ll need a new one for next year. #LiberationDay #Bevrijdingsdag #5mei

Today in Oegstgeest, the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen for sale at any vrijmarkt: a one-of-a-kind Citroën old-timer for €15,000 (reserved). #LiberationDay #Bevrijdingsdag #5mei

In order to remain competitive with AI I will now leave the faucet running while drawing. 🤗

I always feel lucky to live in Leiden which has so many things reasonably close by. For example, cycle 10km and there’s tulip fields! #BloomScrolling

Actual man in the ladies toilets today. It was a lost English tourist and no one said anything. The only thing I did hear was someone warning another tourist about the regrettable air quality in one of the loos, but it wasn’t dirty. “Es ist nicht schmutzig.” There’s my German vocab for the day!

Hope everyone had a good Moehanga day 🫶🏾

I love that the Dutch looked at their monarch’s birthday and were like: What if we celebrate by having The Purge but ✨gezellig✨? Laws and social norms are suspended, but they’re taxes and food safety and public drunkenness and not being over the top. #koningsdag #kingsday
