School parents’ WhatsApp chat is getting super spicy 🍿. Couple of parents spoke to the paper about school funding, the article write-up was not really reflective of the situation and now everyone’s going to town. Much more interesting than reminders about homework.

if you find yourself reluctant to support the guy at Columbia because you find some of the politics he espoused distasteful or even abhorrent, you should know that this is exactly the reaction that they hoped for in choosing him as a target for unlawful detention based on political speech.

Great start to the 2025 gig year, @flaminglips.bsky.social doing Yoshimi in full + a second ‘classics’ set. Was a hot and sweaty night at Festy Hall but a still a high energy crowd. #FlamingLips #withallyourpower

Last first day of school today - twins off to prep and big sister year 2, handled it like champs. Mum and dad excited about a single drop off and no more childcare fees 👏 👏

I'm somewhat attracted to this and think it probably maximises chances Dems win in 2028. But I'm still squeamish embracing it as: 1 - It greatly increases distrust in govt which is needed to deliver good outcomes, and 2 - Driving down sentiment actually hurts people's wellbeing during the 4 years.

A lot of people seem to just not want to think about this or its implications - as if, if they just ignore it hard enough and keep their heads down and keep grinding, everything will work out and they can forget this confusing chapter. That’s wrong! That’s dangerous! Confront the problem!

Broadly agree with the thrust of this thread - 'vibes' have increased saliency in how people vote and this is more influenced by non-traditional sources. Delivering material benefits is important but if it doesn't break through or is swamped by counter-narratives in the vibe then you'll lose. 1/5

Here's the actual, correct summary of Biden's domestic presidency: He entered office with very narrow legislative margins, made worse by the fact that two of his key votes were deeply intransigent. Nonetheless he was able to consistently pass sweeping legislation.

sorry but I'm not spending the next four years getting hysterical every time the rambling 80 year old president says something crazy. call me when troops start amassing on the michigan border

Anything sadder than an old man voting in the #Hottest100? Yep, not voting in the #Hottest100

The only remotely good thing that's going to happen politically in the near future is internecine trumpworld fighting. It's all we've got at the moment so let's cherish it

The real Xmas day is first hot cross bun day. Four months of this delicious goodness before they get cruelly taken from us.

We’ve volunteered to water the gardens at the school over the holidays (we live across the road). The biggest perk is that I now have access to 5 extra, empty recycle bins. Just may use them all.

It's Listmas time. Before I get to my Hottest 100 votes thought would put down my top 10 albums of the year (in alphabetical order). Beyoncé - Cowboy Carter Fanning Dempsey National Park - The Deluge Fontaines D.C. - Romance Jack White - No Name Middle Kids - Faith Crisis Pt 1 (1/2)

Omg Raygun sucks, we should have been even more mean to her www.smh.com.au/culture/come...

As it’s a week until Xmas and we’re in the free-zone where Spotify listens don’t figure in your wrapped, it’s time to turn to my best Xmas songs playlist and put on repeat for the next week. Schmaltz is definitely allowed. open.spotify.com/playlist/6qJ...

Weird way to say the public sector has kept Australia out of a recession. But hey, when getting published in the AFR is your only marker of achievement.... Of course, he hates NDIS spending. Enjoy your US health care, mate. Also weirdly talks about "we" when referring to Australians.

I am begging streaming services to add a “I will never watch this. Never show it to me again” button.

So it's my turn. @musicbrownlow.bsky.social has recently been running polls on follower's favourite songs. Today it's my top 100 of all time. So have a peruse and vote by replying to below post- 3 points for your fave, then 2 and 1.

My column on the GDP figures showing the economy growing slower than anytime since the 1990s recession “What do the latest GDP figures tell us? That the RBA is still getting it very wrong” www.theguardian.com/business/gro...

This f'en guy 🙄

I don't know who I hate more: the wealthy, entitled boomers who keep trying to scam a pension or this jerk who keeps enabling them in the national media by not telling each of them to stop being such greedy mfers and to spend their own fucking money not taxpayers'.

@margaretmorgan.bsky.social - great to see you here! Was just thinking of you the other day and wondering how you and family are going in Rotterdam. Not really active that much on here yet but imagine I will be now the other place has turned into that much of a sewer.

The thing about the AU social media legislation is that on the one hand it's a stupid idea that can't possibly work, and on the other hand it's enormously popular, so passing the legislation in a way that means it won't be implemented but the government can say it passed is the Pareto outcome
