Daughter has left home and I was just caught accidentally calling the cat by my daughter’s name 😕

Old Bailey tonight for panel discussion on prisons with superb keynote speech by the ubiquitous Rory Stewart. Actual event was in court 1, no pics but great seats in jury box, next to RS in witness box. More importantly, big reminder of inhumane scandal of British prisons system

Unembargoed! Strategic Planning Group’s report today on how the new English strategic planning regime - a game-changer - should be implemented. I was a member of the group, chaired by @catrionariddell.bsky.social & led by Prior + Partners. www.priorandpartners.com/spg-recommen...

@bestlaidplan.bsky.social Mike is this your book?

There was an old tweet that stuck with me: "If you can easily walk to the coffee shop but your barista has a one hour commute, you don't live in a walkable 15 minute city; you live in a theme park"

Navigating the stormy waters of planning law, with precision and creativity? Me? Shucks. lauderteacher.com/captivate-po...

Incredibly depressing day. I've spent my entire life being told by British governments how dreadful immigration is. New Labour did it. The Coalition. The Brexiters. Now Starmer. All of them accusing the ones who came before them of failing to clamp down. The same old vacant mean-spirited bollocks.

Trump dumps Ukraine, dumps European leaders, and immediately goes with what his master Putin wants.

I wanted some light reading after Navalny/Patriot but maybe I’ve watched too much about the papal stuff because this little book is surely a brilliant allegory for the way that humans (ok historically usually men & their ridiculous icons & rule making) are prone to create random religious schisms.

Surely the best time of the year she thinks and I agree. #catsky

Unpopular male view: I much prefer the Bridget Jones movie universe to Star Wars, LOTR etc.

Don’t you love eBay?

Add a tariff, ruin a movie Manon des Taxation At Source

Never forget the bravery of this man who left us with this brilliantly readable and self-effacing autobiography. He’s worth a thousand Putins and Trumps.

Here's an example of the sort of "deliverism" Labour should adopt. Driving tests. An enormous scandal that is still not fixed. Ministers promised it would be fixed. It hasn't been - and it's causing major problems for many people.

Debate about how best to manage transport on Oxford Street has gone on for 100 years. Senior Westminster councillor Paul Dimoldenberg reviews the many dreams and schemes and wonders if Sadiq Khan's vision will become reality: www.onlondon.co.uk/paul-dimolde.... #london #oxfordstreet #transport

Lawyer friends, enjoy the big weekend and maybe find time to listen to this fascinating final episode of The Lawyer’s three part mini-series. open.spotify.com/episode/6OFQ...

Had we but world enough and time, This coyness, labour, were no crime… But at my back I always hear Time’s wingèd chariot hurrying near And yonder all before us lie Deserts of vast eternity. No more than approx 1,500 days until next GE.

Farage is responsible for the most disastrous policy in post war Britain. He is close to and mimics the worst US President ever, causing global destruction and harm- including to us. And yet, Labour refuses to hold him to account for either. This is not how you defeat populism.

This is incredibly important. Capitulating firms calculated that their behavior was necessary to benefit their own bottom line. Turns out there’s a cost side to capitulation too.

I remember everything about that day - It’s A Cup Final Knockout in the morning, banner out the bedroom window. 49 years of hurt since. #saintsfc

Impressive breakthrough for Meta to find a way of worsening the experience. 👏 www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

On insta I have this backed by the theme to how the west was won and not sure I’ve seen a better movie trailer. #catsky

Goodbyeeeee London! Last west end performance for Mrs Doubtfire tonight. Gabriel Vick brilliant in the lead role, emotional speech at the curtain, tears all round. (Although smiles from me as 1st small investment in a play & it made a profit large enough for me to buy the ice creams).

Fascinating episode. Never thought I would be nodding my head so vigorously in agreement with Lord Sumption. open.spotify.com/episode/6AF0...

Eddi Reader at the Union Chapel tonight. 🎵

The right-wing press has spread a load of baseless falsehoods about heat pumps. That’s the main reason why the technology is politically ‘controversial’. By banning Evan Davis from doing a podcast about heat pumps, the BBC is dancing to the tune of people pushing out blatant misinformation

More of a C81 kid - think I’d moved on from the NME by 1986 - but loving this book. The afterlives of the mostly never famous are covered with humanity & good humour. Much more interesting than any celeb. Although listening to the tracks again is a bit harrowing - none of it has aged well.

I am the eggman, they are the eggmen. I am the walrus, goo-goo g'joob Sitting in an English garden waiting for the sun. If the sun don't come, you get a tan from standing in the english rain. Total nonsense, that tan in the rain bit. open.spotify.com/track/6Pq9Mm...

Finally finished this big boy. 3 volumes down please don’t tell me how the series ends. Incredible achievement by David Kynaston to bring it all to such life in massive day by day non-judgmental detail, leaving the luxury of hindsight for the reader.

All that glisters is not gold. Interesting (maybe even golden) thread.
