Very strange that all the press are using lovely smiley photos of Paul Doyle rather than the traditional brutal police mugshots.

England could face water shortages within a decade. Since 1989 population, homes increased - 25 reservoirs sold off, no new ones, no desalination plants, 1 trillion liters of water a year lost to leaks. Companies borrowed to pay dividends. No forward planning. Disaster made by privatisation.

If Trump ends the contempt power of judges with his “big, beautiful bill,” no one will be able to stop him. A future Congress would need the power of the courts to enforce their investigations, subpoenas, and laws. It would be the end of American democracy.

Sunset on Friday 18th December 1908. I have cleaned-up this astounding autochrome photograph of twilight 117 years ago, taken in colour by Julien Gérardin. It is an original colour plate, not colourised.

Former MP for party that doesn’t believe in a social safety net would like a luxury social safety net for MPs www.politico.eu/article/brit...

Decent politicians need to push back against Farage's comments on Lucy Connelly. "millions of mothers after Southport feeling exactly the same way"? No. Millions did NOT feel the need to call for mass murder of asylum seekers & we simply cannot allow the idea to be normalised.

The more I think about it, the more I feel that the general panic that Farage might become PM is doing the man an enormous favour. Labour and Tories positioning themselves only against him, helps him, it doesn‘t defeat him. Complacency is bad, but so are feelings of inevitability. 👇

Since Connolly pleaded guilty to a charge which included inciting racial hatred, presumably Farage thinks inciting racial hatred is acceptable. Nigel Farage is not a racist. Reconcile those two statements.

Travel back 116 years to the summer of 1909. I have enhanced this wonderful autochrome of an artist at work - it is a self-portrait by the Belgian painter and early autochrome enthusiast Alfonse Van Besten (1865-1926). It is original colour, not colourised

Excellent and germane thread

Also, asking homeowners for permission would kill the burglary industry.

“I don’t like it and it better stop”. US diplomacy, 2025-style. #Deranged

21,000,000 MILLION ??? #demented #deranged

This is stunning

Something fishy about this sob story (1) The photos are stock shots taken in 2012 and 2014, available from Shutterstock and Alamy—links below. (2) There’s no trace of bankers Al and Alexandra Moy anywhere other than the Telegraph 🤔 www.shutterstock.com/image-photo/... www.alamy.com/stock-photo-...

Isn’t the real question here why anybody is asking the opinion of the father of a former Prime Minister?

My heart bleeds!

This admin seems intent on driving us back to the Dark Ages, when plague and famine stalked the land, violence was constant, law non-existent, and everyone was subject to the random whims of the King, surrounded by fawning courtiers and jesters, and taking decisions based on superstition and omens.

Mussolini’s Italy expelled university professors who opposed fascism. Franco’s Spain replaced university academics with regime loyalists Nazi Germany removed Jewish professors & left-leaning scholars. Academia is a threat to unified ideology. It’s why fascist regimes always target it.

If only there were someone in a senior position of power in this relationship

Great line......

The president is taking *these* bribes in a personal capacity.

All foreign leaders should come to White House ready to be ambushed, and with a few weapons of their own to hand, eg videos of Jan 6th, court rulings certifying 2020 election, pictures of George Floyd’s murder, copies of Trump’s criminal record etc. Trump’s insulting of foreigners is insupportable.

People you have been conned

Thursday's @theguardian.com cartoon www.theguardian.com/commentisfre... #israel #gaza #netanyahu

Eric Trump broke ground on a $1.5 billion golf course in Vietnam—a country grappling with Trump’s 46% retaliatory tariffs. Is it just a coincidence that Trump Organization is opening a new resort in a country begging for a break in tariffs? You decide.

Conservative MP says that the 94% of all children who go to one of the schools his party was in charge of for the past 14 years will have a darker future in which their dreams will be "stifled" and their opportunities "crushed"

On Brexit Wars, the umpteenth sequel in a tired fantasy franchise and the possibility that, in the latest episode, reality may be fighting back .. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Brilliant idea! Next they’ll invent seatbelts and call them “freedom straps.”

Foreign Secretary David Lammy suspends UK-Israel trade negotiations and summons the Israeli ambassador over IDF actions in Gaza, which he says are "incompatible with the principles that underpin our bilateral relations" and an "affront to the values of the British people."

WHY DOES SHE HAVE THE GREATEST ARTISTS OF ALL-TIME & I ONLY GET KID ROCK??? WAAAAAHHH!!!!! 😩

I’ve just looked at the BBC news home page top 10 articles. Where’s the piece that just tells me, factually, what’s in the UK-EU re-set deal? Not who said what about it but just what’s in it. You know, news. www.bbc.co.uk/news

For all the blanket coverage it's getting today you wouldn't know that fishing contributes a grand total of 0.03% to the UK's economy, or that it is absolutely dwarfed by many other sectors, like the live music industry, which have been badly hit by Brexit but are rarely even mentioned

But note, not the PM of the U.K.

It's absolutely peak Britain that the crown jewel of a new EU agreement is us getting access to better queues.

If these were left-wing journalists joking about a Conservative Prime Minister's home being firebombed, they would be blacklisted by every major broadcaster for the rest of time, but they're not, so they won't

Very clever - keep an eye on the banners below to see who Fox News anchors are talking about

We know. They gave you immunity.
