There should be a new Entante Cordiale, whereby France simplifies its preposterous numbers system ('quatre-vingts dix-neuf', etc) in return for the British sorting out their cough/dough/enough/plough/tough/trough maddening lunacy.

Best bookish name for a cocktail bar? I’ll start! (Sadly not my idea, obviously…)

Dogs…

Bit worried about paid work again, so if anyone needs copy-editing, proofreading or even some writing over the weeks to come, email in bio. Cheers x

This. A million times this.

15 years ago, I worked with an author called Sarah Rayner, on a book called #OneMomentOneMorning; I’ve just worked with her again, on #TheOneWhoGotAway. (I LOVE life coming full circle.) For #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek, Sarah has made it free to download on kindle this weekend: amzn.eu/d/61rHuLF

Apparently Jennifer Aniston has just followed me on here.

This is a hill I’m prepared to die on…

Another Monday morning so I’m working in one of my favourite local cafes. I’m fully booked for May, but if you’d like help in June or July on marketing your book, pop me a message! I can work on books before and after publication. #Publishing #IndieAuthors #BookMarketing

I’m missing my old bookish pals from Twitter; who should I follow on here?

I’ve been very slow to get to grips with things here, but if we followed each other on the other place, please do say hello!

Missed this yesterday, but delighted by this news. Congratulations, Pete — and welcome to the New Modern world!

Quick and random question. How much would you pay for the perfect bathroom cabinet?

The retriever would like you to please admire her sock…

The dogs are not allowed upstairs…

This is high art

Unsolicited writing advice, no. 2876234: Don't worry too much about crafting the perfect first line. Sometimes it's easier just to write a few pages (or a few dozen) without thinking too hard about what you're doing; then, when you finally get to your first line, delete everything that came before.

How many jugs is too many? Asking for a friend… I mean, me…

I am one of the authors whom Meta stole (sorry, ‘scraped’) from, by using their books to train Libgen. So I’m biased. But this from @mscaitlinmoran.bsky.social is👌

Usually I try to stay out of these 'discussions' but for fuck's sake. Taking someone else's (usually stolen) work, feeding it into software you didn't write, and pressing a button, does not mean you've created 'art'.

It’s been a funny old week for me — the first #LBF I’ve not attended (bar the Covid years) for over two decades… However, it did give me an excuse to start painting the lounge. What do you think?

We have had 10-y-o Ruby for a year now: her previous owner had dementia and could no longer care for her. She’s a lovely girl, rarely without a toy* in her mouth. * or a pilfered sock.

I know as a book person, I should embrace #worldbookday but at the 11-y-o’s primary school, so much of it was about the costume that it took the joy out of it for me. I thought when she went to secondary school, that would FINALLY be the end of dressing up. But oh no — apparently not… Sigh.

Not remotely book related but when did different sized pillows and pillowcases become a thing…? So far today, I’ve come across standard, king and super king pillowcases…

This is the face of a dog in disgrace. Earlier today, she swam across the river, scrambled out the other side, then REFUSED to swim back because the water was too deep and scary. In the end, I waited nearby so she didn’t panic and run off, while M walked 20 minutes to collect her…
