Look it my eyesssss…bring me treatsssssssss. -Lydia cat

We grew this plant when our cat Tom passed away. What an amazing winter flower. 🌺 #hellebore

I’m sorry, did you want to leave? Let me jump down and sit under your license plate so you can carry me out of the way. -Lucy the not-so-feral-anymore barn #cat

May your Sunday be as lazy or productive as you hoped for. Lucy is leaning toward lazy.

Dearest Mr Squirrel; I highly advise you to relocate your shenanigans. The cats have locked onto your location in our garden. May the odds be in your favor. Ps please don’t mess with the baby onions I just planted. 🫣 #blackcat #whatbreedisthis #cats

Hellebore flowers are in bloom. 😍 which means it’s time to start winter sowing. #hellebore #wintersowing

This was our first year growing butternut squash. I was skeptical about its ability to stay edible for months after harvest but here it is mid February and I’m cooking our last of the patch. Definitely will grow them again but I’m thinking trading some with neighbors would be awesome next time.

Today I halved, roasted and baked the final 2 sugar pie pumpkins we grew last summer. One became pumpkin chocolate chip muffins. And they other will be a pumpkin pie later. Accidentally burnt the seeds to an inedible crisp.

Corbin’s yellow honeybee hive was the last remaining hive and it did not survive winter either. We lost 3/3 honeybee hives, our 10th year of beekeeping. 2nd year of full honeybee losses. Crap!! #beekeeping #honeybees #bees Not giving up yet, but it’s an expensive investment.

Here’s hoping on cold miserable days you still get your favorite snacks. #ducklife #swedishducks we call them #duckies Otho, Pickles, Delia & Rose

Having birds right now is terrifying; but the eggs are daily treasures & that’s nothing compared to their companionship & garden help. In the past we confined them but I’ve surrendered to the idea that living a good free range life comes with bird flu risks. I hope for the best.

Just to remember the snow

There was a time when I wasn’t sure if I wanted ducks or chickens. Weather was definitely a factor and so happy we went with ducks. They love playing in the snow.

Lucy and Captain are turning into a friendship I wasn’t expecting. Their first physically touching nap was today. #dogandcat

Lydia my fluffy black lioness, she is incredible at hide & seek hiding in shadows and dark spaces. #cats

In case you’re wondering what our feathered friend like to eat in the winter this is their fav! During the day our duckies and goose free range but everything is frozen for most of the day. So warm pellets, peas, apples and dried meal worms to save the day. They run for it. 😋 #duckduckgoose

This week one of our duckies started laying. Not sure who it is but thanks girlie! We have Swedish Blue ducks. They do great in our PNW environment. #ducks #swedishducks

This is Stripes; added in July. He is still quite feral to everyone but me & my son. It’s his first winter indoors & loving it. He’s hissing less at our dog, allows me to pick him up, purrs when I snuggle him but turns into Edward Scissor hands making biscuits. #cats

Lydia, named after the Beetlejuice character. She was found in our yard as a feral kitten, only tall enough to see her ears above the grass. At first we kept her inside but she has FLUTD; giving her freedom to be in or outside actually stopped the symptoms & she is so very happy & loving. #cat

This is Wednesday; Lucy’s daughter & also a working cat. Our neighbors have a doggy door & she snuggled their yorkie for the last year. We were co-parenting so to speak. Sadly they just moved. I should probably let the new neighbors know soon, incase they find her inside their house 😬 #cats

We host working cats. Our area has barn cat program for feral cats to help with rat/mice issues. They are ear tipped, spayed/neutered, vaccinated and allowed be a hunter. This is Lucy. She was fully feral in 2023, she is currently snuggled on a bed in the cat tree and super friendly. #barncat

The sky above was blue but everything is a bit frosty

Introductions time I suppose. This is Dorothy our Embden Goose. She is our guard goose for the ducks and the prettiest goose ever. Usually she starts laying eggs about now, we have been looking for her secret hiding spot because it’s not where it is supposed to be. #goose

My first Bluesky post. Couldn’t have expected this change but it’s been a weird year. My roses are still blooming and it’s mid January; I’m guessing after this mornings frosty fog they’ll take their winter nap.
