And again, they were about 15-20 times as large as the April 2009 Tea Party protests, so I'll sit back and wait for 15-20 times as many stories from political pundits explaining that this was a decisive rebuke to the sitting president that Changes Everything.

As I keep saying

How many times has this happened already? How many times will it happen in the coming years? The idiots who fired the competent people suddenly realize they are out of their depth.

Didn't even make the front pages this morning Today in "neither our media nor our political system is designed to deal with a far right authoritarian party"

It had been disheartening, although sadly unsurprising, to see people rationalize the way Senator Padilla was treated.

Today, our discussion of the Weird 70s (Big Foot, UFOs, and the like) with @karenstollznow.bsky.social and Blake Smith of Monster Talk drops. We had a fun time talking to them both and want to thank them again for being the first guests on Ancient Geeks! Get the podcast in all the usual places!

This happened during the first administration when it was saying Seattle was a war zone but I was in Seattle at the time and the most chaotic thing was a barista couldn’t get my name right on my Starbucks cup.

Them: “LA is a full on insurrection” Us at the protest:

As someone who lives in Los Angeles, don’t let social or mainstream media gaslight you into thinking there’s a violent uprising taking place here. The Trump administration is trying to punish this state and this city. He’s also setting a precedent to unleash troops on Democratic cities.

Many still believe that numerous US cities were fully torched in 2020.

Statistically “America” is its cities. But we’re stuck with an 18th century political architecture that gives votes to cornfields & thus makes it politically viable to treat them as some kind of weird tumor.

If LA county was a state, it would be the 11th largest in the country by population. This seems like something people should keep in mind when assessing the current situation.

Just a reminder that Kash raised money for January 6 rioters, including co-producing a benefit single in which incarcerated rioters sing the national anthem while Trump recites the pledge of allegiance.

This is really important: in battle against adversaries, you can expect the troops to obey orders and fire. They don't always do so and they may mutiny after being used badly (see WWI). But domestically, the odds of troops following orders and firing on civvies is much lower. And this is key:

Hornet stings hurt more than red wasp stings, in case anyone was wondering.

Takes a lot of chutzpah to make a $290 million political donation, assume a powerful position in government, use that power to fire tens of thousands of people and do immeasurable harm to American state capacity, and expect not to have to answer for it afterwards.

Maybe the collapse of the Galactic Republic had something to do with so many of the member planets being monarchies or oligarchies?

For anyone who doesn't know: all international students are issued visas by the federal government. The federal government knows who all international students are and where they are going to school. These students are not legally allowed to change schools without going through a process.
