Really? Here to liberate the city from… the burdensome leadership? What could she mean other than the federal government will remove the mayor and take over the city… and state?

The irony is not lost on us.

There are numerous tax cuts and loopholes in the "big, beautiful bill." But it boils down to this simple fact: Republicans are facilitating a massive transfer of wealth to the richest Americans while making cuts that would rip away healthcare and meals from millions of people.

The agency isn’t doing it. It’s the people. None of this can happen without his people in place.

NYT morning newsletter: “The C.I.A.’s leaders once believed diversity programs would sharpen the agency’s competitive edge. Under Trump, it has moved to dismantle those programs.” Better: under Trump, the new staff he has put in place has moved to dismantle those program. (more…)

What? I mean, WHAT!?!?

Taking a bribe in a very public way doesn't mean you aren't corrupt, it means your corruption is shameless.

“The children are always ours, every single one of them, all over the globe.” -James Baldwin Quote used as clue in Apple News+ mini crossword today. (Sorry if this was a spoiler.)

The criticism over Zelenskyy not wearing a suit is not only foolish but more importantly: completely fails to understand why he doesn't. Of course the man own suits. That's not the point. Here's why Zelenskky is not wearing a suit... (quick thread)

Generations of American patriots, from our revolution onward, have fought for the principles Zelenskyy is risking his life to defend. But today, Donald Trump and JD Vance attacked Zelenskyy and pressured him to surrender the freedom of his people to the KGB war criminal who invaded Ukraine.

Rubio terminated 5800 USAID contracts – more than 90% of its foreign aid programs – in defiance of the courts. Here’s a list of just some of the lifesaving awards that were terminated. Nearly all were Congressionally mandated. They’ve saved millions of lives. 🧵

This horrific. Who in any position to do anything about this is going to stand up and say have you no shame?

#Doge #Musk #Trump have come to roost. My company has a supply chain automation contract with the #VA to provide mail order pharmacy to veterans. Mission critical work. We just received this email @briantylercohen.bsky.social @hcrichardson.bsky.social @timmiller.bsky.social

Here is Trump administration loyalist and convicted felon Steve Bannon ending his statement to "FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT" with a Nazi salute a the CPAC conference this year.

DID YOU KNOW: As Trump/Musk fire anyone in the fed government that participated in diversity, equity & inclusion, he just nominated Kimberly Richey for Asst Sec Office of Civil Rights at the Dept of Education. During Trump's 1st term, she ESTABLISHED the DEI office people are now being fired from.

DOGE recommended firing workers at: -FDA, which oversees Neuralink -FAA, which oversees SpaceX -USAID, which probed Starlink -CFPB, which oversees Tesla's financing arm and a potential payment platform on X. "Conflict of interest" is a severe understatement.

Update update: 24 hours in and aside from a sore left arm, easily managed by ibuprofen, no real aches or fatigue. I feel lucky. But even if both vaccines kicked my ass this weekend, it would have been worth it. Get your shots, y'all!

There actually are people in corporate America who could offer something to government. There's, like, people at Walmart responsible for fresh tomato logistics who are pretty good at making complex systems work. But everyone at DOGE is "details are beneath me, I just blather to gullible investors."

The world in 2025. Hundreds of thousands of Germans oppose neo-fascism. The top aide to the president of the United States supports it. apnews.com/article/germ...

Tesla paid $0 in federal income tax last year. 2022: $0 2021: $0 2020: $0 2019: $0 2018: $0 Tesla reported $6.7 billion in profit in those years.

Oh, good. First it will be: You can’t sue DOGE. It’s not a real thing. Then: You can’t sue Musk. He isn’t actually doing any of this. And of course: You can’t sue Trump. He has immunity. Likely in the end: You can’t sue anyone. You don’t have standing.

The main beneficiaries of the Department of Education are disabled kids (IDEA) and working-class and poor Americans (Title I, Pell Grants, work assistance), so of course Trump wants to do away with it.

DOGE is not even a government entity. No one who has not been elected or vetted, had a thorough background check, and been confirmed by congress should have access to any of this. I know we know this, but I feel I little better typing it out.

Now the whole country gets the experience of what it's like when private equity buys the place you work

Why do we need legislation to prevent something unlawful? Will that make it twice as unlawful?

This is possible. But the fossil fuel industry will never allow this to happen. That's American capitalism for you.

Bloomberg: Musk said DOGE was shutting down payments by the US Department of Health and Human Services to Lutheran Family Services, a faith-based charity that has been providing social services to refugees. www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Woah! This is the line being repeated by much of the media now.
