As I predicted in @transitionshow.bsky.social Ep. 226 & 237, the mad rush for power to supply AI data centers would throw climate concerns under the bus, because Big Tech would fall back on gas-fired generation. Per @liamdenning.bsky.social, et voilà: 🎁🔗 www.bloomberg.com/opinion/arti...

I’m not sure I’ll go along with the “death of globalization” kicker, but Nissan does appear to be a canary in the coal mine for the wave of destruction we’re likely to see against legacy OEMs and suppliers that can’t keep up with China’s global EV onslaught. 🔌💡🔌🚗 www.bloomberg.com/opinion/arti...

I made a frinad today

There were bad vibes about EV sales a week ago, when the few OEMs that report monthly numbers did so for April. Looked like a bad month for plug-in sales. Well now with the full data...turns out it was mostly just those OEMs with YoY declines. Overall, plug-in EV sales were up 5% in April! 🔌💡🔌🚗

Strains bounds of propriety? Strains…bounds…of…proprietary? Am I having a stroke? What is happening?

Just for the heck of it here's a solar powered solar system if you're interested. scienceart.com/products/sol...

Trump fails to understand that “gifts” like this are not “free of charge” which is wht the Founding Fathers wrote the emoluments clause into the Constitution. Fast legal action is called for here. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/11/u...

"BP, Exxon & Shell, who have recently noted their exit from renewables, are also withdrawing from core oil & gas production investments too. Over 50% of their operating cashflow is now going to shareholders, not explorers or construction crews."

Will @iso-ne.com’s record low demand (5,318 MW), set just three weeks ago on April 20, fall again today?

A true scandal. One of the biggest free speech violations of our lifetimes and yet the people who screamed about free speech on campus for the past decade were either responsible for the violation (Trump, GOP) or ran cover for it and enabled it (Bari Weiss, Fox, etc).

~45% of US corn production is now used to make ethanol, mostly for mixing into gasoline. That's ~13% of all US crop land already used for energy production. Using some of the same land for solar panels would capture 50-100 times more energy per acre.

Today on Volts: ground-source heat pumps! They're the most efficient way to heat & cool your home, but they're expensive up front. Dandelion is working to bring the costs down, with custom-designed equipment, digital tools, & a big new partnership with a home developer. I talk with CEO Kathy Hannun.

Cybertrucks are piling up -- apparently no one wants to buy them -- but they can't stop making them, b/c shutting the factory down is too expensive. Great work all around.

god i love this post

When they look back on microblogging, they’ll have to note that two of the men who did the most to wreck our world were heavy, heavy users of it, and their brand of cruelty seemed to have a specific kind of twitchy-brained impulsive/reaction-seeking quality that paired a little too well with it

Brilliant to eliminate Energy Star, a program that costs $32m but delivered $40b in annual savings. None other than the US chamber of commerce tried to save it as a model of business/government partnership. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/06/c...

The EPA plans to eliminate Energy Star, the popular energy efficiency certification for dishwashers, refrigerators, dryers and other home appliances, according to agency documents and a recording of an internal meeting.

Very unusual just how fast Bosch and the other appliance makers immediately called out EPA for reported plans to eliminate Energy Star. Not something you see companies do these days. Energy Star saves average household ~$450/year and is VOLUNTARY

Vance: "Which regime in the world has civil nuclear power and enrichment without having a nuclear weapon? The answer is - no one." Germany, Netherlands, Brazil and Japan all have civil nuclear power and the ability to enrich uranium. None have nuclear weapons.

It will be good to have wealthy Americans to stop buying up so much of the cheap PV from overseas since it will allow people in less wealthy economies to decarbonize more inexpensively. 🔌💡

Make it 44 straight and 85 of 117 100% Wind-Water-Solar days in CA in 2025. Gas is down 45% v '23 and 25% v '24 Batteries up 198% v '23 and 73.4% v '24

SCOOP: The White House asked FERC Commissioner Willie Phillips to step aside, he told me today. He will step down effective immediately. His exit from the commission will allow President Donald Trump to tap a replacement commissioner. More for Pros: subscriber.politicopro.com/article/2025...

Our listeners know I've been keenly following the FirstEnergy corruption scandal that rocked Ohio in 2019, leaving a legacy of old coal & nuclear plants, utility commission corruption, suicides & ratepayer bagholders. Now, there's an HBO documentary about it: energyandpolicy.org/hbo-the-dark...

This is the only #podcast I pay to subscribe to. It's so high quality, all signal and zero noise. Information-rich. I learn tons. Consider subscribing if you care at all about the planet-wide emergency caused by burning fossil fuels. xenetwork.org/become-a-mem... #climate #sustainable

Energy dominance, what energy dominance. Over the first 100 days this administration has pissed off oil&gas, LNG, nuclear, geothermal, critical minerals, solar, wind, batteries, and innovation. Even with the economic downturn we still have load growth.

Here is a nice mushroom

Every day use of fossil fuels should feel like a disaster. Deepwater Horizon cost BP more than $65 billion — but if that oil had been captured, sold, and used, it would have been worse for the environment, killed more people and animals, but BP would have made money. gwagner.com/risky-climat...

On this Easter Sunday @iso-ne.com is predicting New England will shatter through its record for low demand on the regional grid. The current record low is 6,814 MW set 4/9/23. Today, the ISO is predicting that regional load will drop to 5,290 MW ~ 2:30 pm. isonewswire.com/2023/04/11/n...
