Are we at "pizza deliveries to the Pentagon are at record levels" status yet or are we relatively safe for the next few hours

Remember, there was a SIGNED and VERIFIED nuclear deal with Iran under Obama. They were complying; they poured concrete into the Arak reactor. The IAEA confirmed everything. Trump and Netanyahu reneged on the deal. The violence we see now is almost entirely the fault of these two war criminals.

I need every scientist doing defense work to realize that when you do "national security" work, there are actual people on the other end of whatever you give to the government 🧪

Barely 6 months in and we've now had two assassination attempts, one successful, on Democratic representatives in a blue state today. My thoughts go to the families of both representatives and the people of Minnesota. The far right is killing representatives to consolidate power and silence dissent.

The weather has been thoroughly uncooperative for a good while between clouds on smokeless days and smoke on cloudless days. But I did manage to acquire some spectra; one of Vega, and another of the Wolf-Rayet star WR 140. I guess spring-summer is becoming smoke season now. Thanks climate change. 🔭🧪

Immigration is good, actually.

Purging the experts so he can staff it with rabid anti-science grifters. Again, people will die from this nonsense.

This is martial law, regardless of if those words are used. There have not been riots in LA. People have been bravely resisting attempts by masked ICE goons to kidnap people off the streets. The claims of mass lootings are lies to justify military occupation.

Couldn't all this smoke have moved through when it wasn't the first few otherwise cloudless nights in like an entire month

Cuts have consequences, illustrated. As seen on TV 📺

From Skylar Grayson @skylargrayson.bsky.social : This post summarizes the proposed major cuts to NASA and the NSF and the impacts they would have, and provides resources to help fight back against this wasteful and unnecessary attack on science. 🔭✨☄️ astrobites.org/2025/06/02/b...

It needs to be stressed that many of the missions that will be cut in the proposed budget are already in progress and have returned amazing, sometimes groundbreaking science! These are projects that are already paid for, cutting these would be a grievous waste of taxpayer money!

The goal is plainly and literally to cut the number of people involved in basic science in the US by 70%

This budget, if approved, would be an extinction-level event for NASA Astronomy. Awful. 🔭🧪

BREAKING: The president's budget request just hit Congress, which could usher in a dark age for NASA space science. Congress has the final say, but you can help shape the outcome by adding your name to our global petition. This is just the start of our fight. Sign the petition: planet.ly/petition

My field is being burned to the ground by gibbering fascist freaks before I can even get the chance to join it. And it's not just astronomy. All of US science is being eviscerated. Anything that doesn't serve the empire or materially enrich the oligarchs is being killed.

Assuming Artemis (or hell, NASA itself at this point) survives that long, I now don't see a crewed Lunar landing happening before 2030.
