You don't have to be a fan of Netanyahu to accept that Iran having nukes would be bad and also that Israel appears to have successfully destroyed Iran's ability to retaliate. And that isn't a bad thing either. JCPOA was better, but this is where we are. open.substack.com/pub/arthursn...

Former Tory MP Nicholas Soames on Rees-Mogg: "He is an absolute fraud, he is a living example of what a moderately cut double-breasted suit & a decent tie can do with an ultra-posh voice and a bit of ginger stuck up his arse."

People misread Rees-Mogg all the time. He's not an aristocracy story but a social mobility story: the grandson of a lorry driver who made it to pretending to be a lord. It's the British Dream.

Funny how Israel can carry out highly targeted strikes in Iran but seems completely incapable of doing that in Gaza.

Over the past 20 months our team at @cen4infores.bsky.social has meticulously verified footage of almost 1700 incidents in Gaza, West Bank, Lebanon and Israel to map and understand what has been happening. Of those, just over 50 show obstruction to aid.

Of course it’s too early to know what Iran‘s full response might be, but it’s perfectly possible that Iran has almost nothing it can do in response.

NASA FIRMS data confirming fires at the Russian airbase in Gvardeiskoye, Crimea after overnight drone strikes.

Noga Tarnopolsky: “💥Israel is briefing correspondents that the Mossad was able to establish its own base, producing attack drones, deep inside Iran.”

Of course, if Iran gets nuclear weapons it will drive a rush for others such as KSA and Turkey to get their own. But the Saudis have no indigenous nuclear engineering capability and the Turks have limited. So the idea that we're on the brink of a nuclear Middle East is overblown.

Private Eye exposing again the utter idiocy of our politics. This sums up *exactly* how Farage and Reform get rocket-boosted by a media, drunk on sensationalist nonsense. Unserious and irresponsible but it’ll be up to us to prove them wrong.

Two parts of the same story.

Ngl the second coming has been a bit of a disappointment.

It certainly would have been interesting to be on the Signal group chat where Trump pulled out of the joint strike on Iran with Israel. #tacothursday

Remarkable. The US really has turned into the worst ally. When will the Brits realise they don’t have a special relationship

COMMENTARY: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s plan to arm criminal militia-cum-clans opposed to Hamas in Gaza could lead to devastating consequences, as we’ve seen in recent history.

This is the sort of talk you’d hear from an ill- informed private soldier, not SECDEF. As Coons pointed out, per capita 🇩🇰 lost more men than 🇺🇸. As largest country in NATO of course 🇺🇸 lost more total. But rather than count bodies, why not ask what 🇺🇸, as strategic leader, achieved with its war in 🇦🇫?

It is extraordinary to linger on the thought that Russia is very close to reaching 1,000,000 casualties in its stupid and barbaric war on Ukraine, of which 250k are deaths.* Its devastating war in Afghanistan cost around 14k lives. *This was confirmed to me by official sources in past few days.

Watching the right now oppose the part of the second amendment that guarantees a well regulated militia under state control is… something.

I don’t think this, by @kschake.bsky.social, could have been published at a more appropriate time:

No wonder the Treasury had some doubts about her spending plans if that’s what she’s been funding
