This is absolute madness. Trans women must use the men's toilet in parliament buildings, unless they work there, in which case they can use the women's If a worker visits on her day off, which does she use? 🙄 www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/poli...

A young Canadian with the same conditions as me ended her life via Assisted Dying. What did she want? Palliative care & better pain management. What was she offered? MAiD. This is the problem. The safeguards come off & disabled people can’t access the care they need to survive.

Edinburgh Emergency Stop the War Protest at the Foot of the Mound today (I'm not involved in organising, just sharing for visibility)

Aside from the obvious eugenics concerns... Both the UK Government and media are reporting this as 'every baby in the UK' and 'the NHS will...' but health is devolved - have ScotGov and NHS Scotland agreed to this plan? www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/ever...

personally I think it's far more objectionable to refer to a pregnant 13-year-old as a 'woman' than to refer to a cis woman as a 'person', but what do I know

As someone who went to grad school specifically to read Victorian novels, reading this has now frozen my face into Munch’s The Scream

Once again, why have Labour put a right wing evangelical Christian in charge of the health service

Just listened to this episode at the gym, and I would recommend it: there is a clear top-down coordinated effort to get us all to buy into a false narrative about what really happened during the Covid-19 pandemic which we need to be aware of/resist

A man shouted Britain First as he shot an MP dead and Britain First are not proscribed.

This was one of the most interesting panels I’ve ever been on. Key points: let’s move away from demographic apocalyptism; it takes a village to raise a child - individualised incentives won’t ‘work’; instead of trying to change the birth rate, let’s create a healthy society people want to live in

Happy Edinburgh Pride 🌈💖🇵🇸

What is common knowledge in your field, but shocks outsiders? Food systems are the #2 contributor to climate change, the #1 driver of deforestation, the #1 driver of biodiversity loss on land, and the #1 user of freshwater. (It follows that food systems contain many solutions to these problems.)

Really not looking forward to being told by an evaluation committee that I don’t need to travel to African archives, I just need an LLM to scrape the internet (which by then will be full of racist slop)

It’s hard to escape the dawning realization that part of the goal of Google’s AI Overview is to simply eradicate the concept of anyone else having any kind of website at all. Why click on a link & explore when Google told you the answer & you didn’t know it was wrong?

I want to read a scifi short story collection specifically on these scenarios.

"they say you are a young angry woman who needs anger management" -reporter "The world need is more young angry women" -Greta Kidnapped by Israel from international waters on a civilian ship to distribute humanitarian aid and still ready to continue the fight (after a shower).

The EHRC's segregation consultation is a horrible document to look at. But if you're planning to fill it in, you don't need to do so alone. Join @katymontgomerie.com and me for our Tuesday evening livestream so we can respond together. We are stronger in community!

*Saturday trans history/mystery* one of the most well known cases of a 19th century "female husband" is John Coulter, an Irish labourer who was exposed as female-bodied following an autopsy when he died of a drunken accident in Belfast in 1884... (thread)

"Are you feeling blue sadness, yellow sadness, or sadsad?" Honorary mention for disapoofed.

I've still never forgiven Reeves for writing a pop history book of women MPs and only having a brief paragraph on Constance Markiewicz which didn't even mention she was imprisoned when she was elected, but having a whole chapter on Nazi-sympathiser Nancy Astor. (Also the austerity ofc)

Linking to a website with this article still up on it is a *choice* when advocating for "LGBT LIBERATION"

🚨 NEW 🚨 The EHRC was created to protect our rights. Now it’s trying to quash peaceful demonstrations. goodlawproject.org/the-ehrc-is-...

Anyone saying ‘DEI’ here in the UK is telling you very directly where their hate is imported from.

If your industry can't survive without exploiting people, then you're in the wrong industry.

This is true. What gets lost in these conversations is that DEI policies are, almost without exception, *evidence based*. They’re not just woolly liberal guilt or a desire to fit a trend. They’re not opposed to merit: they support it!

Greta Thunberg and other activists join 'Freedom Flotilla' trying to take aid from Italy to Gaza https://twp.ai/4in5ek

One of the only common "DEI" measures in hiring practices is to assess applications without having the name attached, because people with feminine or racialised names get hired less, whereas when we take names off, everyone gets assessed on merit. But sure, let's stop doing that.

Cis women allies would you fancy signing this open letter in support of trans rights? ♥️ www.change.org/p/not-in-our...

#UCU2025 Congress has voted to raise a trade dispute with the government. @drjogrady.bsky.social On BBC Radio 4 this morning our general secretary @drjogrady.bsky.social lays out the stark reality of the crisis facing our sector

I still think represents the most shocking void in the UK’s COVID response - when the largest biomedical facility offered to undertake testing (many universities did the same) the government didn’t even answer. The cost would have been minimal. But no profit for private companies… is that it?
