“international students studying at U.S. colleges and universities contributed $43.8 billion and supported 378,175 jobs to the U.S. economy during the 2023-2024 academic year.” Look up impact by state and congressional district here: www.nafsa.org/policy-and-a...

“Importantly, under long-standing law and practice, NIH does not have the authority to arbitrarily terminate grants. Its funding decisions must be guided by congressional mandates, regulatory requirements, and scientific expertise, not vague and undefined criteria.”

I'm just saying it feels like this level of sustained anxiety should be burning more calories than this

Hundreds of National Science Foundation staffers turned out for a group photograph to celebrate the besieged agency’s 75th anniversary—despite efforts by NSF officials to prevent the picture from being taken. scim.ag/4jcGpIt

🚨 A new rule would let career scientists like NSF/NIH program officers be replaced by political appointees Already 14,000+ public comments, deadline is Friday 📣 Comments can be short. Courts consider them—and scientists with NSF/NIH experience are especially impactful Speak up! shorturl.at/WKuBj

NEW: Under Trump, the National Science Foundation is awarding grants at the slowest pace in decades. We took a detailed look at every area of science affected by the funding lag. Here's a gift link: www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

The reductions in funding touch virtually every area of science and seem certain to harm American competitiveness. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

Here’s how Trump’s war on science is going. NSF funding is at the lowest level in decades. We’ll lose knowledge, generations of scientists, and US competitiveness. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

🎆🧬💻 !congrats to labbie @zoehert.bsky.social for blitzing her qualifying exams this week!!💻🧬🎆🧁

Shout out to all of the faculty and students who made it through this semester in particular. What a time to be teaching and learning in spaces that are directly under attack from people who benefited from having access to the same resources themselves.

#OnThisDay in 1856, Charles Darwin noted in his journal, "began...writing species sketch." This "sketch" would form the base of his book On the Origin of Species. 🏺 🧪

Society: look, you follow the rules, get a good education and a nice job, it’ll all work out Society: well, it’s great that you did all that but we’re really more into white criminals

“The Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas — hardly a partisan institution — finds that nondefense government R&D yields long-run economic returns of 150% to 300% …“Our findings therefore point to a misallocation of public capital, and substantial underinvestment in nondefense R&D.”

Without basic science, there is nothing to translate.

NEWS: I just led 112 of my colleagues in demanding answers from the Trump Administration on their funding freeze of the National Science Foundation. Cutting off NSF funding threatens vital research, stalls innovation, and risks ceding global scientific leadership to China.

🎓 graduation weekend 🎓 a perfect time to remind parents what NSF means for them and their kids #saveNSF #withoutNSF

Join us in the evolution tri-societies Week of Action for NSF! Call/write congress, engage with colleagues, friends and family about the importance of NSF funding! Scan the QR code on the attached image for instructions and scripts. We must make noise! Pls RT!!!! #WithoutNSF #SaveNSF #SupportNSF

SaveNSF is a coalition of concerned scientists and allies who are working to save funding for scientific grants through the NSF. The mission is to support and advocate for the continuation of vital research and innovation. Join: www.savensf.com

Science is squeezed from both ends. Grant funding is being withheld, and at the same time our operating expenses are increasing dramatically because of tariffs.

"A report by economists at American University in Washington DC estimates that a 50% reduction in federal science funding would reduce the US gross domestic product by approximately 7.6%." Science is an amazing engine of economic activity and progress for the US ... or at least it was.

BREAKING: NSF has frozen all grant funding, as of yesterday. It's unclear when they will resume funding awards, or why the pause has been put in place. www.nature.com/articles/d41...

As somebody said quite a long time ago - why should I bother to read something nobody's bothered to write?

US based scientists are not ok.

(i'm not even british but) cornwall's method, obviously

In addition to the terminations of existing awards, new NSF grants are still stopped completely since DOGE was granted access to systems a week ago. Last Thursday, an agency spokesperson said "NSF continues to issue awards." That does not appear to be the case.

🎉 manuscript accepted, pending minor revision...
