"Authoritarian."

Tonight's movie, Son of Fury, with Tyrone Power and an excellent villain in George Sanders. But the best scene, by far, is with Elsa Lanchester, a serious actor, as a woman who shelters our hero. Which is just like two other scenes. www.youtube.com/watch?v=wemo... /1

I've spent years moaning about how counterproductive the Oxford traffic measuers have been. At last, there seem to be tentative moves to introduce the (unpopular) measures that might be helpful. /1 www.oxfordmail.co.uk/news/2522644...

I loathe this. It makes the beginners mistake of confusing the company and the business it owns. If the company is balance sheet insolvent, sure put it into an insolvent proceeding and sell off the business. The *shareholders* get nothing if it is insolvent. The *company* is worth zero. But. /1

Three things distinguish UK policing from the US. 1. Guns (obviously) 2. The absence of any immunities from civil actions (v important) 3. The Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984, still the most important regulation of police powers. /1

This company is insolvent. It is insolvent because it over optimistically over leveraged. Put it into administration, sell off the business. Tell the lenders to take a jump (politely). www.theguardian.com/business/202...
