We should have been Victorian!

A parting shot…. looking out over the Fowey Estuary before heading home. There’s such richness of Sport Walking opportunities in Cornwall, it won’t be long before we’re back!

We’re back in Cornwall this week & both the trails & the weather are, so far, divine!

Our course ‘Get Sport Walking’ gives you everything you need to start walking for fitness, challenge or adventure. If you’re looking to improve your fitness & love walking, this is for you! sportwalk.teachable.com/p/get-sport-...

The John o' Groats Trail is a long distance walking route from Inverness to John o' Groats, completing the vital missing link for Land's End to John o' Groats walkers. It is being constantly improved but is still rough and challenging in places. Full guide: www.walkhighlands.co.uk/john-o-groat...

Our #FiveADayFebruary personal challenge is nearing its end. Some amazing performances from Sport Walkers coming in & we can’t wait to see the final results. Last year we had one finisher & Barkley Marathons already rules the roost on that type of outcome, so we’re hopeful of a 100% increase!

In module five of Get Sport Walking, which drops at the end of the month, we delve into the world of Sport Walking challenges - from organised events to your own personal goals & targets. sportwalk.teachable.com/p/get-sport-...

Loving the vibe out there among our #fiveadayfebruary walkers. Most doing 5k everyday but Jack in Canada’s solidly clocking up 20k a day & very happy doing so. This is what Sport Walking gives you!

We often get asked if you can go Sport Walking without trying to walk as fast as you can. The answer is yes, if that walk, to you, is in some way challenging. We’ll explain more in a forthcoming article.

Waking up to date 2 of February but didn’t start #fiveadayfebruary yesterday? Well obviously you can’t now complete the challenge BUT, you could still tag along for the ride (walk)! Take the principle of walking 5k every day for the rest of the month & start to make a change! 👍

And they’re off! Welcome to Five A Day February - our personal challenge that you do by yourself, for yourself! There’s no sign up, no medal, you just go out & walk 5km or about 3 miles every day through February. If you can’t finish it, no problem but you have to start today! Go for it!

What winter Sport Walking’s all about, right?!

And finally, why walking, especially a Sport Walking approach, should be on every runner’s skill list!

Perhaps an odd suggestion coming from us but there are benefits for Sport Walkers…

The intersection between running & walking is an interesting & beneficial space for all. Give it a go!

Despite having to crawl through bushes to navigate flooded, waterlogged ground, yesterday’s Sport Walk in our backyard was a cracker! Taking in the upper reaches of the Beaulieu River & what’s known locally as ‘potato fields’ (which aren’t fields & have no potatoes 🤣)

This time after the festive break can be a little tough motivationally. The initial buzz of starting a new regime or training plan quickly wears off but fear not, you can thrive in winter…

‘Five A Day February’ - our personal Sport Walking challenge - isn’t far away…. keep your eyes peeled for more information!

And so…. after the ‘twelve days’, it’s time to get back to normality. Our motto for 2025 - ‘Stop scrolling, start living’!

This little fella kept hopping from puddle to puddle in front of us as we walked along, so we stopped to let him have his bath!

It would be so great if you could give my botanical illustration & mental health workshop below a RT if you have a moment. Thankyou 🌿

Only 14 sleeps until New Year, so if your resolution is to get fit, begin early & get a head start! Just start walking faster & go out more often, that’s all. Get into the habit of walking regularly before Christmas & then sticking to it in the new year will be easier! #walkfaster #GetFitWalking

Roger’s signed up for one of these in February. For Sport Walkers in the UK, this new series could be a really good option for shorter distances or a training boost, with 8-22km routes to choose from. www.ukrunningevents.co.uk/events/hikin...

A few images of Roger in action at Hurtwood 50k. He finished in just over seven & a half hours, first walker & 334th out of 406 runners! Flying the flag for Sport Walkers in running ultras!

Roger’s thoughts following his Hurtwood 50k challenge last Sunday - ultras are about what you can learn, not what you experience. sportwalk.net/2024/12/13/h...

Rather bleak up on the hills this afternoon, as we checked out the two support meet points for tomorrow. Quite a bit of debris on the roads but the trails looked OK. It’s going to be one of those ‘no plan survives contact’ days!

Looking like Roger’s going to have an extra test on Sunday! Storm conditions forecast for Hurtwood 50. It’s not going to be a walk in the park (literally 😆)! Hey ho. We do say ‘challenge yourself’, so time to put money & mouth together! 🙂

OK, we’re going to get in early & say…. if you’re planning to get serious about your fitness in the new year, don’t wait, get started now! Start walking faster & then you’ll be ahead of the game come resolution time!

Trying not to get too excited. On Sunday, I’ve got my first ultra in four years. It’s set to be a cracker, on trails I grew up walking on. Can barely contain my excitement but I need to make it successfully to the weekend & then it’s up to the trail gods. Such is the condition of the Sport Walker!

People often say to us “you can’t enjoy the landscape if you walk fast”. We say (from experience) “you won’t miss a thing” & if anything, being more focused on walking fast actually sharpens your attention. Yes, you can get fitter AND still immerse yourself in nature’s beauty. It’s a win, win!

This is Sport Walking - a fitness workout, an endurance sport, a lifestyle youtu.be/E2sr2BPUamw

When the fuel arrives, you know the ultra’s just round the corner! Our founder Roger’s preparing for the Hurtwood 50k in a couple of weeks & this fabulous juice will be keeping him full of beans (not literally) for the duration! #Tailwind

When we’re out training on the South Downs, we normally stick to the South Downs Way. It’s partly for convenience but also because we love that trail! But just taking a different way back the other day, rewarded us in spades, so we’re converts & can’t wait to explore new paths!

What a difference a day makes! Beautiful sunny training walk out from Bolderwood

Pretty moody out in the forest today but still better than being inside!

There’s still not a huge number of walking related & other outdoors voices on Bluesky that we can find but if the political journalist Xodus is anything to go by, that will change. Hope more will make the switch soon, as then we can close our X account! 🎉

We wholeheartedly support this. People need green space & infrastructure to make being active work for them & it’s hardest to find that in urban areas.

We might have stepped over the naughty fence to get this shot (it was already broken) but it was worth it! Cornish industrial history at its most beautiful & impressive.

Heading back to Cornwall for a few days & this time it looks like we may just have some Cornish weather 😁
