So is it a compliment if a reviewer claims student copied the SA page of their training grant from my grant when they worked hard on their writing? And what do I do? Send my grant to SRO, so that they can compare aims and educate reviewers on not punishing trainees for things that are not factual?

Fun reunion in Philadelphia! @canxuki.bsky.social #philadelphia #NNS2025

I've been watching Jonathan through med schl for 3 yrs. I turned over stones bc, like a lot, wonder if the real deal. I asked him to post student ID, he did. His schl acknowledged his existence, but shrugged. He wanted help w/research, he showed up. He graduated, I watched that. #TooLegitToQuit

Nobody needs the spinning wheel of death the evening before a grant deadline.

My op-ed was published in @al.com ! www.al.com/news/2025/06... @sciencehomecoming.bsky.social

Very smart, high ROI initiative from the Spencer Foundation. Providing bridge funding for canceled NSF grants: 1) directs funds to projects already screened by a top-noch review process. 2) avoids imposing proposal prep costs on researchers. 3) ameliorates the disruption from GOP sabotage.

I'm excited to announce that I'll be starting a lab at UCSF in the @ihgatucsf.bsky.social and @ucsf-epibiostat.bsky.social in July. We'll work at the intersection of statistical genetics, population genetics, and machine learning.

Bit of weird request. Mentoring a high school student doing a thought experiment on the Effectiveness of Natural vs. Chemical Antibacterial Agents. She needs to have consulted an international contact to demonstrate that she has sought a wide range of help and views. Anyone able to help?

I am happy to be representing @glia-leadership.bsky.social at the Thriving PI Summit organized by @anapineda.bsky.social Wanna join for 4 days of advice & success formulas for PIs from a range of speakers? ifocusandwrite.lpages.co/summit-the-t...

Could be huge. Especially for those terminated in the anti-DEI purge. "...NIH will allow individuals whose mentored career development awards prematurely ended on or after January 1, 2025, to be eligible to apply for a new mentored career development award" grants.nih.gov/grants/guide...

Tacking on a number between 0 and 99 to a hexidecimal color code really does change its opacity without extra magic. If you don't believe me...

Having a hard time processing this. HHMI is pausing all competitions. Very demoralizing for early career scientists like me @hhmi.org

Just got news that @hhmi.org decided to not review Hanna Gray fellowship applications. I am sorry but that’s fucked up. People spent months working in those. So now you disadvantaged these candidates even more. They could have used the time to advance their research instead.

Despite some ups and downs at NIH, we do have an open position for a postbac and are considering candidates. Our work is at the intersection of neuroscience and AI, and we aim to understand how the brain's densely connected recurrent networks operate. 🧪

🧪 The National Science Board, the governing body for NSF, meets tomorrow. The juicy agenda items are private, but there is a portion that is public, including on the race with China. Public part is 3-5 pm ET, watch here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1PE... More info: www.nsf.gov/nsb/meetings...

The Spencer Foundation is offering rapid response bridge funding for those who lost NSF research grants. www.spencer.org/grant_types/...

Today 82 years ago, the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising started. Thousands of Polish Jews chose to die with a gun in their hand rather than in gas chambers. Most did not survive. Today it is commemorated with yellow daffodils. They were sent each year to the sole surviving commander by an unknown person.

Looks like Zoom broke. The equivalent of a snow day!

Bad news for all of us: champion for inclusion & excellence @ NIH/NINDS Dr. Michelle Jones-London is leaving NINDS.💔 She helped launch the career of countless cutting-edge neuroscientists & set the standard for training. Great news of course for where ever she goes next. 🧪🧠@jeremymberg.bsky.social

SCAM ALERT. This is a fake conference that ripped off my and other people’s names to trick people into registering. There is no such conference that I or the others shown were invited or agreed to. We are working to try to get this fraud taken down from the web. chemsymposia.com

Last call if you started your lab or are a senior postdoc and want to join for our New PI workshop today. See details 👇 DM me now, start 10am ET.

Great news: NIH postbac program is recruiting again! If your grad school plans were affected by program cutbacks or admissions freezes this year I highly encourage you to apply, this could be a perfect opportunity. Please repost. www.training.nih.gov/research-tra...

What is it with dogs having to take up space on yoga mats?

I love taking photos of blood vessels in the brain! Here are some of my favorite shots, which one resonates with you the most? #MicroscopyMonday

Quick question for New PIs: We’re hosting a New PI Success Essentials Workshop next Friday, April 11, from 10am to 2pm ET. Given the challenging circumstances many of you are facing, we’re making this session free for PIs in the US. Consider it our small contribution ;)

He’s such a handsome boy!

Here, where sea grass whispers ancient wisdom and footprints map my journey home, I surrender today's struggles to the tide. The sun spills its golden secrets across the water, reminding me that even the most challenging days end in beauty.

Opportunity to build your #neurotrauma network either as #mentee or to serve as #mentor. To me this has been very helpful to become better integrated in the @neurotrauma.org community.

Lovely performance of Swan Lake by the State Ballet Theater of Ukraine. They are currently touring the US and if they come to your city, go see them! 🇺🇦

Bluetorial: Women, courage, and leadership What follows will include some generalizations based on population averages of what I have experienced over the course of my career. There are, of course, exceptions in every group who are substantially more to one extreme or the other.

This International Women's Day, let's honor those who helped us to get where we but also remind ourselves how far we have to go. Keeping ourselves informed of the journey ahead & uplifting the women in our community are the best steps we can take as individuals. www.weforum.org/publications...
