I still can't get past the idea that people in America are now supposed to accept that this is a valid form of law enforcement and just assume it's fine when random dudes in groups with face-coverings, no ID, no warrant, & no uniform grab people off the street and force them into unmarked vehicles

You will want to read this.

I am watching Sen. Alex Padilla talk on the Senate floor about being assaulted last week, as I watch New York City controller Brad Lander get assaulted at immigration court. In between reports on the two MN Democrats shot, one murdered, last weekend. But both sides, people, both sides.

Absolutely right.

The White House is giving off vibes of Weekend at Bernie’s.

So, exactly who is running the show here? Trump made the important point over the weekend that we are losing essential employees, people who've been here 20 years & aren't criminals, & reined in immigration raids. But it sounds like someone countermanded him. Who's in charge? Trump or someone else?

So what’s the scenario when POTUS has both dementia AND the nuclear codes? Asking for the world 🌎.

Good morning. Here’s a recap of Trump at the G7

Important thread 🧵

My god.

Come on New Yorkers — for the love of god don’t elect Cuomo.

What the hell?

I can't think of anyone currently running for office more dangerous than Andrew Cuomo. Not just for NYC but for the nation, because unfortunately NYC disproportionately affects the rest of the states. Bad politicians elsewhere don't have the same structural power. NYC: Do not vote for this man.

41 years ago today. #Anniversary

And not a peep from the DNC leadership.

With all the horror, we seem to have forgotten that women are dying of miscarriages.

This is an egregiously shameful tweet from a US senator

The Tea Party protests in April 2009 had about a third of a million people involved, and the political media treated it like a game changer for the Obama presidency. The No Kings rallies were AT LEAST ten times bigger than the Tea Party protests. Will the press keep pretending Trump is popular?

Some doodles from this week.

Great!

Our newest grandchild arrived yesterday — a big beautiful boy weighing in at 10lbs. A wonderful way to celebrate Father’s Day.

Watch this.

I’m starting to wonder how many pretenders are camouflaging themselves to look like ICE, Police, FBI, and other government agencies when they may not be authorized government officials at all? How many are members of hate groups, paramilitary organizations, and the like with no authorization at all?

Being a historian doesn’t give me the mantle of authority to say definitively what’s happening here or how anyone should respond, but I feel qualified to say this: If you were writing an account of how the United States devolved into violence and fragmentation, all this would be chapter 1 or 2.

I’m in LA today and sadly unable to protest. But if you see this kickass sign in Madison, that’s my friend Kristen!

With the tragic assassination of a Minnesota Democratic leader, I’m going to underline this point again.

You really can’t get more American than to say that we don’t allow kings here — an American tradition since 1776.

Which one of these two would be able to create the most acts of violence and human suffering?

I’m pretty excited today because my wife Lynn and I are planning to attend a meet ‘n greet with lots and lots of puppies available for adoption. Our older lab died a couple of months ago and our remaining dog, a pit bull, needs a new companion. We are looking for another pittie. Wish us luck.

For anyone who may be new to this platform, if you’re wondering who to follow begin with some of the starter packs that many have created for just this purpose. Also take some time to look at someone you enjoy/admire and check out who they themselves follow. Takes time, but worth it.

I agree!!

Seems relevant.

Not taking anything away from Senator Padilla because he was treated atrociously But I JUST want to remind everyone that the Congresswoman LaMonica McIver, a Black woman, was just indicted for just asking questions at an ICE detention center in her state Keep that same energy of support for her

You’ll be too young to remember, but there was a time when you could wake up as many as three mornings in a row and not find the world had lost its fucking mind.

It is bizarre the way people with guns, bulletproof vests, riot shields, tanks, and other military gear act like rocks are an equal threat. It’s madness! If you are scared of rocks and think the punishment for having them thrown at you should be death, you shouldn’t be in law enforcement!

One piece of American history that I hold onto for hope is that while Richard Nixon didn’t go to jail — many others from his administration were convicted of crimes and served time in prison — people like the VP for example.

The roughing up and handcuffing of Senator Padilla feels like we’re crossing the line. It feels like when Senator Charles Sumner was caned almost to death by another senator over a speech Sumner had given on anti slavery. Moments like these can blow into something much much larger and dangerous.

Never trust billionaires — even Cuban.

The state of California needs to arrest the DHS "security" forces for assault and every Democrat in the U.S. Senate needs to sign onto a campaign to impeach Kristi Noem. Right fucking now.
