Are Keir Starmer and Rachel Reeves following in the steps of the Wilson Govt - or another Labour administration from the distant past? Terrific but chilling insights from @steverichards.bsky.social. Reminds me to re-read Robert Skidelsky’s “Politicians and the Slump.” Also highly recommended.

One of his best. I covered the 29-31 Labour government in my undergrad degree (special paper on the Keynesian Revolution); but @steverichards.bsky.social's analogy between now and then (based on the search for respectability and the grip of outdated orthodoxy) hadn't occurred to me. Spot-on, though!

Very good on accountability getting you in the end - even if it takes a decade or so!

Delighted to hear my email read out by @steverichards.bsky.social on Rock & Roll Politics. I recommend you listen to the whole episode and subscribe, but you can hear the thoughts of a self-confessed 'academic librarian, arch centrist and increasingly concerned Labour member' at precisely 55mins...😄
