The EU needs an anti-greenwashing law. Dropping the #GreenClaimsDirective would be a major setback for consumer protection and sustainable businesses. It erodes public trust, contradicts EU commitments, and weakens the fight against greenwashing and disinformation.

Thermal batteries are game-changer for clean, resilient energy—storing excess renewables as heat (up to 1,500°C!) for industrial use. They’re becoming more cost-effective, are scalable and key for decarbonizing industry. I’ll highlight this tech tonight in my keynote at Catalisti in Antwerp.

‘Patriotic pumps’: heat pumps to run mainly on British energy as boilers set to be ‘heavily dependent’ on imports Over next five years heat pumps increasingly run on British renewable electricity as gas boilers become 80% dependent on imports.

It's here! It's finally here! It's Daniel Hannan Day! The future he promised everyone a mere 2 days before the Brexit referendum is so exciting, I think my heart may burst with joy when I step outside and experience it for myself. (Read it. You deserve a laugh.) www.reaction.life/p/britain-lo...

The global fight against climate breakdown is being undermined by virulent disinformation. It’s a coordinated, well-funded campaign to delay action, erode trust, and protect profits. Mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo and I wrote for the Guardian on what can be done about it.

I get annoyed at the narrative that all the awareness and work on climate change hasn't done anything. Yes, global CO₂ emissions indeed continue to climb, but we don't know the counterfactual. When I was in grad school, we were on track for 5°C of warming. Now it's below 3°C. That's progress.

A recipe for shifting the dial on climate: fund a massive science/social science/engineering effort to find ways to bring at least a billion people out of poverty with zero carbon footprint & minimal environmental impact. And then **make it free & open source** for everyone to use & improve on.

Sigh.

His argument, at its core, is about how utilities have been able to get compliant regulators to approve levels of profit that are too high. insideclimatenews.org/news/1506202...

Is 600 deaths in one heatwave enough to make you wonder whether it was right to imprison so many Just Stop Oil protestors? If not how many will it take? www.theguardian.com/environment/...

A slightly more positive perspective: The three largest power sectors are cleaning up their electricity supply in lockstep. Different levels, same trajectory... Carbon intensity of electricity generation has fallen a lot in China, the US and the EU in the last two decades.

It's already #ShowYourStripes day in many places like New Zealand, Australia, Japan and Papua New Guinea. All these countries are warming rapidly. Visit www.ShowYourStripes.info to find your warming stripes with 4 different designs. Start a climate conversation online or with friends and family?

The plunder of our seas by industrial fishing is a monstrosity in which almost everyone unwittingly collaborates. For decades this truth has been deliberately hidden from us. Now at last the consensus is cracking. This week's column. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

This headline is a take, a totally bullshit take. Decades of lack of investment in grid infrastructure, combined with NIMBY whinging about building anything anywhere, means British transmission infrastructure is crap. That’s the problem & that should be the headline www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Great article on how a German court has ruled that private companies can be held liable for their share in causing climate damages. It's the polluter pays principle, and as such should be a no-brainer. But the fossil fuel industry has so far thought to be exempt. theconversation.com/one-lawsuit-...

MP @melanieonnmp.bsky.social says the new Viking carbon capture cluster is a “game-changer” for the Humber. These clusters are centred around billions in public money for *new* fossil fuel plants—which will be as bad for the climate as coal. Here’s why 🧵1/6 #VikingCCS #FossilGas #NetZero

This shouldn't come as a surprise. Agribusiness corporations & their dependents in policy/politics have cynically exploited the narrative of regenerative agriculture without any interest in investing in developing climate friendly agriculture models. There are proven models of agriecological farming.
