We watched this wonderful little female otter for about half an hour on Islay this morning.. several ballan wrasse and swimming crabs brought ashore to eat on the rocks. Only a few of our Rewilding Field Course students were up but they were treated to some fantasist views and behaviour..

Faint aurora in North Donegal as we were setting nets this evening

Fortunate to have the black and white casqued hornbill pose very nicely for us. Out on the edge of Kagamega Forest collecting mud. Presumably to help his partner seal herself into their nest hole. #ornithology #birding #kenya @birdsoftheworld.bsky.social @ibisjournal.bsky.social 🦜🦅🪶🌍🇿🇦

It's officially HUMPBACK season in Cornwall 🐋 which means countless hours scanning the horizon, battling the 🥶 & straining my eyes!! The whales are thought to stop here to ‘refuel’ on their way ⬇️ to ❄️ breeding grounds. So get out, keep your 👀 peeled, & you might just get lucky!! Photo: Jason Prince

Lots of bleached by the wind sailors (Velella velella) on the beaches over the last few weeks.

I am happy to talk about why we have to tag animals but it’s not OK to attack our research or our commitment towards the animals we worked with so closely.

Common dolphin washed up nr Trefusis Head. Beak has a fresh wound that looks suspiciously like net entanglement (has MSN tags so been there for a day or two at least) @exetermarine.bsky.social

New paper alert! Really excited to see this work from a postdoc with Steve Votier @heriotwattuni.bsky.social published in Ecology & Evolution! In it, we use existing bio-logging data to study competition and facilitation in foraging gannets. Link to paper here: dx.doi.org/10.1002/ece3...

Large shearwaters like these greats have been numerous in the southwest this year (and recent years). Wondering if it is linked to the increase in Atlantic bluefin as they often associate with one another in feeding frenzies. #ukbirding #ornithology #seabirds

The classic Shanghai skyline from the Bund… it really is a pretty awesome by day and night..
