It's very interesting that "nationally important projects" always seems to mean oil pipelines, and not doing things that would benefit far more people like fixing our crumbling infrastructure.

This is BS. I ran for office in a red state and won with 80% of the vote. I regularly talk about my identity when I knock doors. The key is to do so a way that connects to other issues (e.g. being trans shapes how I think about ALL healthcare access, threats to education, etc.). It's that simple.

What people need to understand about the internet is payment processors are the biggest censors on the planet

Be careful of survivor and selection bias when trying to understand disease impacts. Imagine if we could survey those who died because they were unvaccinated or died because they were infected by a person who chose not to vaccinate. Survivor bias can paint a rosier picture than what really happened.

It reveals how there is a strong antimodern impulse at the heart of a lot of environmental thinking. We've been able to heat homes much longer than we've been able to cool homes, therefore heating is "natural" whereas A/C is "unnatural."

Trump's decision to provoke and participate in a purposeless and unnecessary war simply in order to declare a peace he can brag about reminds me of one of my father's favourite expressions: "It's like banging your head against the wall, it feels so good when you stop."

I don't know how to explain it but this reads like a compilation album released ten years after the band's last new recordings or tour.

He's still bragging about not having dementia

Nothing this criminal regime does is popular. That’s the point. We’ve arrived at a place where democratic will has been so undermined that the wealth class can enact any awful and transparently inhuman thing they want. This will not change until we reassert our democratic power.

Your regular reminder from me that a massive anti-corruption campaign could be a mighty weapon against these creeps.

Many of the worst crimes are perpetrated —by purposeful arrangement—in third countries. Auschwitz wasn’t in Germany. “Extraordinary renditions” weren’t to the United States. A green light into black holes. www.stevevladeck.com/p/161-the-co... ht @sjshancoxli.liberalcurrents.com @jamellebouie.net

requiring landlords to hold town halls is such a good idea. i've never even met my landlord and he used to live in my unit

I know a lot of people still follow that @falconryfinance.bsky.social account but if you still are, I suggest you do not. The Holodomor was, in fact, very real

grandpa slipping and cursing on camera after a major foreign policy fiasco definitely gets covered one way under trump that it did not under joe biden

As a journal editor, I agree 💯 with @catherinedevries.bsky.social. To me, the lit review is the single most important part of any paper. There are many ways to do one, and it is often hard to do well, but this essay gives some excellent advice: catherineeunicedevries.substack.com/p/most-liter...

Every fucking time I read it.

This uhhhhh made a lot of stuff click.

I just want to put this here for posterity to show that this does, in fact, also happen to Republicans

BREAKING: A federal judge has ordered the Trump administration to restore millions of dollars in canceled grants to University of California researchers, calling the terminations flagrantly illegal and unconstitutional. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

NEW: Judge Murphy says the 8 men in Djibouti on their way to South Sudan WILL GET THE DUE PROCESS he previously ordered, saying that his remedial order remains in effect despite the Supreme Court's unreasoned order lifting the stay on his class-wide injunction.

I was gonna do that "post your gender with a pic you already have" thing but aside from never posting pics I didn't already have one of the ST:CCG card "Workhorses of the Fleet" saved. And let's be honest, my gender is just a homely, trashy girl. That's a dime a dozen. I'm wallpaper and I love it.

Cuck libs' obsession with identity politics forced Trump to bomb Iran because he became economically anxious after Uraine refused to surrender to Russia. By Chapo Trap House

It's gender all the way down; all this is drag, but the "reactionary camp" kind (wish I could dig up that link).

as a child I thought it was wildly unrealistic that Sims would immediately give up on all their goals and dreams if a single dirty plate was left on the ground but now that I’m an adult I understand that that was the most realistic part of the game

Accurate tho

one way to make sense of the position of the republicans on the supreme court is that they do not believe there is such a thing as a legitimate objection to the actions of a republican president, no matter how deranged, depraved, or anti-constitutional www.stevevladeck.com/p/161-the-co...

in the pre-covid world, alternative medicine was seen as apolitical, or even as socially progressive in the west their broadly anti-science stance on covid led most into far right spaces, but there has not been a recognition that this obsession with preserving the 'natural' tends to be reactionary

the progression of posts is really something else

"“I had a one-star rating for a book that hadn’t even been seen by my copy editor. When I raised it with Goodreads they wouldn’t interfere as they said the reviewer had a perfect right to predict if they’d enjoy it or not..."

I’m quite fluent in ALL CAPS. it was my first language as a child and it’s what I speak at home. my expert translation of Trump’s chaotic ceasefire posts indicates a man who hates doing his job abruptly realizing in panic that the US getting pulled into war means he will have to do his job every day

"What I just went through."

The all caps means he for really real means it

This is why I have absolutely zero tolerance for anyone supporting the sudden execution of USAID by Elon Musk:

I challenge anybody to find a better system than "water boils at 100 hots and freezes at zero".

Jesus Christ.

This is good step in the right direction, but now should be expanded to *everyone*. After all, we all have a right to not be permanently disabled from a preventable and avoidable disease. All my organs need blood to function, and covid imperils that.

This is huge! A human rights tribunal found that employers must accommodate remote work for immunocompromised employees Remote work accommodations are something disabled people have needed for decades Covid showed us it’s possible, but ableism & discrimination took it away We all need this right

Ontario’s $235M pledge (over 3 years) to expand primary care works out to $4.82 per person per year. Of that, $142M is for staffing across the same timeframe. Please clap.

"Recognition of the condition as an industrial disease would be a positive and necessary step." The way forward was to have all workplaces, regardless of profession, provide a safe workplace. It still is.

Unpopular opinion: MAHA, while complete pseudoscience, falls well inside the medical establishment - it's just a different subset that gains political advantage from it. It will be rapidly embraced by the leaders of many medical institutions, who will happily trade our lives and health for power.
