The natural life span of an emotion—the average time it takes for it to move through the nervous system and body—is only minute and a half. We need thoughts to keep the emotion rolling. We lock into painful emotional states [through] our own endless stream of inner dialogue.~Tara Brach

@miriamsilver.bsky.social you're in the guardian this morning! Thank you for all the important work you do on behalf of our clients & our profession www.theguardian.com/law/2025/jun...

@acp-uk.bsky.social hi @theguardian.com compassionate and thoughtful article re Heston Blumenthal but it is not correct that only psychiatrists can diagnose mental illnesses in UK. Clinical psychologists can also do this (though only psychiatrists can medicate) www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio...

I am just a microscopist with social anxiety. But seeing #Covid impact on the brain through the lenses of the microscope has affected me. It’s hard not to feel for the millions sick everywhere. Below is a 2021 video about our research. Can we please keep talking about #LongCovid?

Thanks for the reminder @janemunday.bsky.social. Every summer, I repost this article DROWNING DOES NOT LOOK LIKE DROWNING. To date, I know of FOUR kids who were saved after someone who'd clicked on the link learnt how to spot actual drowning. Take time to read and pass on. slate.com/technology/2...

I’m seeing a lot of people posting about how sick they are with a “summer flu” Main complaints? Fatigue, extremely sore throat, fever and loss of smell. It’s Covid. The Nimbus variant is here & appears to be more transmissible. It’s time to wear a respirator, clean the air & stay home when sick!

When we are dealing with a dysregulated pupil, we can regulate them by the tone of our voice, how we listen to them, and our non-verbal signals, and they will be able to reflect our calm. This is called co-regulation. When one nervous system supports and eases another. 🧠🌱

Myocardial fibrosis in a 46 year old who had Covid five months before diagnosis, could be indicative of Covid-related heart disease, such as myocarditis (inflammation of the heart muscle) #LongCovid www.cureus.com/articles/368...

What is common knowledge in your field, but shocks outsiders? Tailoring instruction to alleged "learning styles" (visual, auditory...) is *not* helpful and the concept itself questionable at best. For a concise and accessible summary see, for example: www.in-mind.org/article/lear...

Reframing Psychedelic Regulation: Tools, not Treatments In this new article, we propose to regulate psychedelics as psychotherapeutic treatment tools rather than as treatments in their own right. The use of anesthetics as treatment tools in surgery is a useful analogy.

Thank you to my son and his day care for this terrifying Father’s Day gift.

To ever break the stranglehold of addiction, one is going to have to face what the compulsive behavior is a defense against. To go down into that anxiety state, to really feel what we already feel...is to “go through” the addiction to its other side. ~James Hollis

Might be a good idea to extend Covid vaccines to those of childbearing age.

Children exposed to COVID in utero had developmental delays at age 24 months: 🧠36% cognitive delays 🗣️64% communication delays 🏃57% had motor delays 🧪 Specific developmental delays were related to specific inflammation cytokines found in their cord blood at birth. buff.ly/AQSfBm9 #Medsky #Pedsky 🛟😷

Something a therapist once said: "You're not healing to be able to handle trauma, pain, anxiety, depression. You're used to those. You're healing to be able to handle joy and to accept happiness back into your life." #psychology #cptsd #traumawork #therapistsky #therapysky #traumainformed

Rejection can be emotionally painful, but it can also teach us something. A social psychology researcher shows how rejection can serve as a learning signal – shaping how people navigate relationships and decide whom to attempt to connect with in the future.

@theguardian.com thank you for the fascinating article below. Please could you do a UK version looking at le creuset etc? www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle...

Los Angeles Unified School District Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho didn't hold back when expressing his anger and "contempt" after agents with Homeland Security attempted to gain access to two elementary schools earlier this week.

Does the Green Party get this treatment too?

When you grow up in up in a abnormal, harsh psychological environment where your needs aren't met, your brain & body are working to protect you. You learn to suppress, disconnect & adapt to survive. You stop dreaming, hoping .You internalise a message that you were the problem.🧠🌱

My first attempt at meditation was a 7 day silent retreat w/ 8 hours of daily sitting. After practice sessions before the retreat I asked others if meditation was supposed to feel so easy & weird. I didn't know at the time that I wasn't meditating - I was dissociating.🧵 tinyurl.com/37uzscj5

It’s #ShowMeYourKnits time again and the theme is COWLS 🧶 I’ve knit a few, though by looking through my Ravelry list, I seem to be drawn to shawls more. Anyway, these few were all fun knits in their own ways 😊 Details in alt text.

Maya Angelou's "Still I Rise" is a timeless anthem of resilience and defiance. In turbulent times, it reminds us to stand tall, unapologetic, and unbroken. A manifesto for hope, dignity, and rising above. #StillIRise #MayaAngelou #Resistance ✊

DK socks are one of my favourite quick knits, and are wonderfully warm in the winter! I've knitted two pairs of the Camp Socks by Megan Nodecker (2&3) to use up leftovers of my favourite DK . The purple pair: Prowl Socks by Stephen West Blue pair no pattern. #knitting #knitsky #showmeyourknits 🧶
