Woodland, California,10:00 a.m. I never know what to do at these things. I don’t like to chant slogans. I don’t have a clever sign, although I like other people’s signs. But they say half of life is just showing up, so here I am.

“It is corruption in the old-fashioned meaning of the term, that the body politic is being corrupted—poisoned—by a sickness that must be cured or it will be fatal.”

“Amnesty International branded those sites ‘horrific’ and ‘a hellscape’ in a 2021 report, which found evidence of ‘sexual violence, against men, women and children.’” This Administration delights in cruelty. It gets an almost sexual thrill in mistreating the people it hates.

“Mean?”

"Ah-ha, sovereignty won. We are on the side of sovereignty" say team threatening sovereignty of Canada, Mexico, Panama, and Greenland, while celebrating that the Kentucky Derby was won by a horse owned by the Emir of Dubai.

He wanted to call it “Suckers and Losers Day,” but Susie Wiles wouldn’t let him.

He promised he was going to end the war in a day.

Mark Carney and the Liberal Party win in Canada. Everything Trump touches dies. #ettd

Tell me Trumpism is not a white identity movement.

This is very “inside baseball;” it may be difficult reading for non-lawyers. But you’ll rarely see a Supreme Court justice taken apart the way @stevevladeck.bsky.social takes apart Sam Alito here.

Personally, I think it should be front page news for at least a month if a sitting US President is using falsified evidence to try and deny due process to a man who has committed no crime, but that’s just me

I don't really care what the "political consequences" are of fighting for the proposition that *everyone* is entitled to due process before they are removed from the United States and sent to a Salvadoran prison. It's not really a principle if you only adhere to it when it's politically expedient.

I put a hold on Ed Martin’s nomination. He’s denied elections. Fired quality public servants. Attempted to chill free speech. Turns out he’s also carrying water for the Kremlin. So wholly unfit to be a U.S. Attorney.

All Abrego Garcia needs to do to get out of prison is claim he rioted on Jan 6

The only thing missing from the reporting is what Trump said to the heads of these law firms: "Some day, and that day may never come, I'll call upon you to do a service for me."

We've reached the point in our descent into fascism where the Jewish governor's house getting firebombed on Passover by a guy trying to bash his head in with a sledgehammer is overshadowed by the story of the President saying he wants to build foreign gulags for US citizens.

Forget about the legal case. A man was wrongly deported and placed in a notorious prison with leaders of a gang out to get him. Anyone with an ounce of basic human decency would fix the mistake and return that man to the United States

“Governments aren’t perfect, but we (and especially courts) labor under the assumption that they are acting in good faith. But what if they’re not?”

Sometimes, when he fails badly enough, Trump can be forced to do the thing he says he never does: back down. Today is just one more turn on the roller coaster - but it is more evidence of why we can't give up or let up.

“The question is whether to prolong this slow national decline or to confront it head-on.” Spot-on analysis from Garry Kasparov, who knows something about authoritarianism.

KBJ is having none of John Roberts’s bullshit.

In which SCOTUS sits on its hands while the rule of law crumbles before its eyes. The courts will not save us. We are in big trouble, folks.

More from Sacramento.

Capitol Mall, Sacramento, California.

We’ll be there tomorrow. I hope you will, too, wherever you live.

There it is. That’s a HUGE part of the reason Trump & the oligarchs love the Gilded Age — the era before the income tax. They want to shift the tax burden back to consumers & working people while the robber barons celebrate their biggest tax cuts in US history. That’s also why Elon decimated govt.

“While Trump imposed tariffs on Australia’s remote Heard and McDonald Islands, which are uninhabited except by wildlife like seals and penguins, it did not put tariffs on Russia.” What else do you need to know?

If you’re not getting Professor Richardson’s “Letters from an American” in your inbox every day, you’re missing a lot.
