The idea that CRT scanlines and blur were an instrumental tool to 8 and 16 bit artists and that games look wrong without them is false, and modern CRT shaders really overdo and exaggerate the shortcomings of tube TVs. I doubt most pixel artists were even aware of what everybody talks about today.
