Can't believe I begged my journalist friends in Brazil to cover this story 3 years ago but no one was really interested www.nytimes.com/2025/05/21/w...

Unfortunately this is true and increasingly I see this dilemma as one of the defining traits of my generation (proclaiming deep longing for community life while also getting "high on cancelled plans" and needing "time to recharge" after 3 seconds of small talk with a waitress)

One funny thing about watching My Vrigen's Hacking Hate in a cinema in Warsaw was that when the guy’s Russian ties came up everyone chuckled like “yeah of course", but when it shows that he had a fake account called BRICS_the_end_of_NATO I was the only one in the in theater who reacted (I screamed)

"NRC spoke to seven renowned genocide researchers about Gaza. They are not nearly as divided as public opinion: without exception, they qualify the Israeli actions as "genocidal." And according to them, almost all their colleagues agree with that." WITHOUT EXCEPTION.

Plainly speaking: molon labe bitch

This is so incredibly frustrating. European allies should not be jumping over every stick Trump holds for them because the stick is just gonna move. We need to focus on capability development, not % of GDP.

Of course Putin is very serious about negotiations and ending the war. Because why else would he send a delegation headed by an all-powerful ex-Minister of Culture with a policy portfolio limited mostly to writing crappy history textbooks

*shocker* on.ft.com/4khWT2X

But these guys have had this exact stance on Syria for the past 10 years at least. War on terror is an evil neocon fixation but if China and Russia do it it's moral & based.

Excellent broken clock moment.

'The first hour-long episode will premiere at the Copenhagen Democracy Forum on May 13.' Apparently it will be broadcast in Taiwan this summer. I'm very curious to see how Taiwanese society reacts and whether it will affect any of the recalls depending on timing.

Something something again we have been deceived something aomething neocolonial anglo-saxons something something quote by Ivan Ilyin

Lula to Jon Lee Anderson: "I come from a generation that learned in the 80s-90s, with Reagan and Thatcher, that the best things for the world are globalization and free trade". Read/translate the quotes by dismayed Brazilians for a fun ride

I've been cautious with this prediction bcs Trump is so unreliable, but I've said that I wouldn't be surprised at all if this happens. Again, the genocide is obviously bad first and foremost for the Palestinians - but it's never been 'good' for the Israelis, either. www.jpost.com/middle-east/...

I guess BRICS bros makes a bit of sense, but the Jinnah-Bandera axis is not one I had anticipated tbh

I've voted for Lula or his party in every election I was old enough to cast a ballot, and would probably do it again. He's done great things for Brazil, but his presence in Moscow today is disgraceful and leaves a permanent stain on his legacy. Slava Ukraini, today and always 🇺🇦

Lol this is a net good

So when is His Holiness excommunicating Vance?

We latinos are completely justified in claiming this one too, sorry

Ah, yes, here we go again. Time for all the substack/podcast guys who never so much as muttered a word about India/Pakistan and couldn't name two villages in Kashmir to save their lives to bless us all with their takes.

More like the arsonist coming back offering you a predatory loan to hire their fireproofing consultancy start-up

I screamed

My long read for @ecfr.eu and probably the publication im most proud of in all my years doing this. A deep dive into how Russia retrenched in Libya, uses it to project power from Ukraine to the Sahel, and the many lessons Europe or other frontline states can learn from it ecfr.eu/publication/...

I really wish @letterboxd.social had something like “letterboxd wrapped” at the end of the year, I’d be way more excited to share that than the Spotify product which I'm usually kind of embassed by (I tend to listen to the same music on repeat for working or exercising as it helps me focus)

What's ironic is that Reform's supporters are not necessarily pro-Russia (some might even back Ukraine) so this move (which is just aimed at banning pride/trans flags) will probably backfire
