I used to make video game and tech content as a day job, from 2007 to 2020. Now I do QGIS stuff, Ignition SCADA things and water loss reduction shenanigans. I also write books that aren't very good. And I'm trying to make a game about a duck. Also, I run.

A short history of how I may be responsible for the world going to shit. I was poor - mostly stable world, a few localized wars, life improving for most I receive an old computer from an friend - 9/11 I get a better computer - Iraq invaded I get a job I like - Georgia invaded ... 1/3

Had a job interview yesterday. Lot of thick accents, including mine. I had trouble understanding why they kept asking me about my carrier. Do I have to switch to a specific data provider? My carrier plans? I'm not sure, whichever's cheapest and has coverage. Oooh, career. I'll se myself out.

This is Tub and Blue. They simply cannot figure out how to get their tennis ball that fell in the pool. Still 12/10 because they really are trying

Remembering better times. Frustrating times, but better.

Every time I close LibreOffice, the GeForce overlay pops up wanting to show me the highlights of my epic spreadsheeting. The pop-up is disabled. I'm on the Studio drivers. There's no setting to have it record spreadsheets. And yet.

Been on a binge of new job interviews lately. Latest one is in cybersecurity, which is a subject I kinda abhor, but I've already been forced to do it for the last 5 years and they mentioned a number for the salary that made me do a double take. It's like, "what if numbers were meaningless" high.

I told you we’d be back

I have nothing but disgust for people who hardcode folder paths un general use gateway scripts.

Know that Greta Thunberg and the other brave folks abroad a UK-flag humanitarian mission were kidnapped by armed Israeli pirates in international waters, abducted into a genocidal nation, forced to watch re-education, & then "deported" from genocide-land despite having been kidnapped into it.

I like Hitman and IO, but people, stop this. This is a singleplayer game. It was terrible when Ubisoft did it, it's terrible now.

Well, while I was away, looks like the refurbished 5060 Ti got sold, so that narrows my choice back tot he 9060 XT, of which the cheapest version is already gone. Oh well. Guess I'm 1660 Super-ing until OLX comes through.

Yes. You can set people on fire. Which is something more adventure games should allow.

The preferred reality: EU🇪🇺!

Before me lies a perilous choice. Do I get a 9060XT 16GB or spend 60$ more and get a 5060Ti 16GB? Or do I forget the whole thing and go back to the Athlon 64 for a year and then come back to the main PC so that It would seem like an upgrade.

I really should probably get started on that zombie game I was mentioning in the other place. The Last Days Gone Before of Us sure has a certain ring to it. If I ever manage to upgrade the GPU, I wonder how much asset flipping would take to make something like that.

This is not a placeholder, you can buy it for 660€. It's 50€ cheaper than a 9070. Roughly 250€ more than it should cost. I hope there will be variants that cost around the 7700XT, which is about 430€. If not, this generation, that was supposed to be "for the masses" has been a gigantic failure.

Gotta say, this has been an absolutely solid run of Doctor Who.

It's the first #screenshotsaturday since release for Near-Mage! 10% launch discount still on, time to study Magick in Transylvania! 👇

Jesus Mecha Death Christ this looks good #near-mage

#QGIS enhanced 3D implementation is being crowdfunded at this very moment. If you pledge, you can make QGIS better, make GIS more accessible, and also, you can tell Hexagon to eat a dick. www.lutraconsulting.co.uk/crowdfunding...

I've been wondering why I loke working in #QGIS so much. Sure, I liked maps, but there's more to it, there's a flow there. And I couldn't put a finger on it. Then it dawned on me. I've been preparing for this for decades.

Near-Mage is out now on Steam! If you bought the game, please leave a review - it really makes a difference and it means the world to us! ♥

I've started giving people at work candy as treats whenever they learn to do something new in QGIS. I don't know if I'm establishing a healthy work relationship like this, but that probably means I should get better candy.
