Agentic AI, (noun) the decision to stop pretending GenAI can produce useful output on it's own, so instead you start pretending any amateur can program it to produce useful output.

Machine Learning: (noun) a technique in which statistical algorithms are used to recognize patterns and their associated anomalies, in a set of carefully chosen (but probably incomplete and incorrect) data.

AI Hallucinations: (noun) a marketing term created to distract you from the fact that Large Language Models (LLMs, AKA GenAI) produce outputs that are incorrect, incomplete, or both; and the owners of said models aren't the least bit intrrested in correcting the problem.

Artificial Intelligence, (noun) 1. software that performs probabilistic pattern matching with enough utility to fool an untutored observer into mistakenly inferring intelligence on the part of the software; 2. Software that is 100% made by humans (not occurring in nature) and 0% intelligent.

Just between us kids, yesterday I was in a chat with a colleague who wanted to combine two separate teams doing a common AI use case so we only developed one. I gently pushed for more of an 'a/b testing approach.

Speaking only for myself, I will state the need to experiment at length & in the real world. AI is fine with central tendencies but weak with edge cases, which the real world is jammed full of. We need to get extensive real world experimentation under way with disciplined & thoughtful controls.

Time to dispell the hype about GenAI. It has its uses. But let's not kid ourselves. It's simply software that's good at probabilistic pattern matching.
