One of the most abundant mammals found at the #TarPits, Coyotes are one of the most visible throughlines between L.A. and the region’s past. Coyotes from the Ice Age were significantly greater however their descendants have developed a suite of survival skills that have aided in their survival.

Why did the Ice Age titans go extinct? Using a method devised for dating fossils preserved in asphalt, a team of 19 scientists obtained over 170 radiocarbon dates on #TarPits fossils. This helped determine when different species disappeared from the ecosystem and start to ask: why?
