Of all the objections I’ve gotten in sales, this one today is a sign of the times. Prospect didn’t want to move forward because he was worried about WWIII starting.

Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

1992 - Sold a SyQuest drive to Michael Crichton over the phone. In the comments section on the invoice, I put "Error 601" A few days later, he called back and said, "Error 601! That was funny." and hung up. That was the error code when the simulation computer crashed in The Andromeda Strain.

@billyjackliberal.bsky.social Late 70's, was at Carl Reiner Celebrity Tennis Tournament at La Costa. Was standing next to a guy and chatting about the goings-on, then over the PA, "Tom Laughlin, center court please." He turned and said, "That's me." Big fan but I didn't recognize him out of context.
