Q: worst board/CEO in media? —5 rebrands in 5 years; —Shares down 63% since merger; —Paid CEO $348.2m A: Warner Bros. Discovery, Inc.

What is art without any human connection to the creation? Someone got $4M to convince you it’s this thing — a startup producing unironic GenAI tv shows about blood sucking parasite monsters.

Holy shiitake! Trump fired Shira Perlmutter, the Director of the US Copyrights Office apparently because she refused to let Elon Musk raid the place to steal author’s intellectual property rights democrats-cha.house.gov/media/press-...

Oh look at that, NPR finally woke up… for (probably only) this specific post. That’s nice.

And it does. Thoroughly articulated example here by @marisakabas.bsky.social

Unsure how he’d interpret it, but @edzitron.com’s brand of well-deserved shit slinging ridicule feels like the resurrected spirit of Valleywag — but w/ most broligarch ai investor types ignoring or dismissing his existence like a case of hype-eating bed bugs they confidently declared eradicated.

Springtime baking is calling my name. Or maybe just a version of those cinnamon rolls ( …using Lemon Blueberry this time?) #FlashesApp

I’ve worked in media too long to find this surprising, yes even (especially?) from a player like Vox, which regularly and loudly preaches church of journalism ideals as a guide stone. On the upside, newly spunoff Gamesbeat has a bright future under @deantak.bsky.social to make up the ground. 👊

I somehow binged Andor S2 this weekend, it’s good! www.engadget.com/entertainmen...

So it begins, again... @kevinrose.bsky.social & @alexisohanian.bsky.social have the right idea: Building something for people like myself who've pulled way back from contributing to online communities because of how they're crawled by marketers/feds/GenAI training. Excited to Digg back in.

It always boggles my mind that I, a journalist, am expressly forbidden from trading stocks, but members of Congress, with vastly greater knowledge of market-moving news, are allowed to profit by front-running markets, and so may profit by in essence stealing from the public they represent.

Holy shit this is frightening.

If you’ve read her book Careless People, it’s easy to see how accurate this is. Utterly convinced Facebook clearly knew everything that was happening by Russians in the 2016 election. It goes back a decade+

This is the right idea, provided it’s entirely a PEACEFUL protest devoid of damage or destruction.

Bill Gates appears to have done some reading. quantum computing was baffling to him back in 2017 www.wsj.com/articles/a-r...

My new motto (via Lordess Foudre www.instagram.com/p/DGUifKwR-uq/ )

The Trump administration is explicitly targeting libraries, museums, and the press in the latest executive order.

Elon Musk's favorite supposed data expert, who he's retweeted at least a dozen times, claims she can only process 60,000 rows of data before her "hard drive overheats"

In which the Department of Homeland Security struggles to answer a very simple question: "Is any criticism of the United States government a deportable offense?" (From NPR here: www.npr.org/2025/03/13/n...)

He’d certainly know about deeply unprofitable. Don’t take my word — Google it. This aside, what nonsense comparing America to a private company (yes, some tech dudes are that reductively stupid). You can be for more government efficiency and not support the random bonfire of cruelty that DOGE is.

Absolute bullshit. There is absolutely zero credible justification for targeting and blocking a news outlet.

New from 404 Media: buying this $250 ID from the tropical nation of Palau allows you to bypass U.S. crypto laws. The law blocks certain exchanges and limits trades. I bought the ID, verified it works for making accounts on crypto exchanges. Traders are doing this. www.404media.co/buying-a-250...

@smorgasboredom.bsky.social congratulation on reaching random Bluesky meme spam status — a milestone that ranks just below an EvanAI Grok bot that tweets contextless blurbs about press freedom for the purpose of boosting engagement among Elon Stans.

Encouraging words from Alan Moore circa 2007, much needed in this era of unapologetic LLM theft. It’s hard to get motivated to write stories worth sharing publicly when we know it’ll likely end up as training data.

It’s important for Americans to feel like their congressional reps actually, ya know, live here (and care). So it was nice to walk into Kerbey Lane for my weekly local breakfast and see mine talking about big important things as soon as i walked in @doggett.house.gov 👊 🍳🥓🥞

Woke up to 100+ reactions from my last @flashes.blue post, with literally no self promotion. That’s more than I ever got at Instagram, which once again I really do not miss! Also, more pies from the past. #pie

So @flashes.blue limits photo uploads to 4 per post. Wouldn’t mind it increasing to 10, but I can live with it if it means being off of Instagram. Also, more pie credentials.
