I know this is extremely vulgar idealism, but I do think we should try to aggressively reassert the norm that lying is bad. Not in a "Four Pinnochios" fact-checking kind of way, but in a way that frames this kind of lying as moral degeneracy that is fundamentally corrosive to the human spirit.

They still don’t get it. The Dems are using rules to try to protest people who have absolutely no regard for rules. The rules don’t matter anymore and dems are not caught up to that reality.

The logic of the coup that is going on now. And how to resist it. snyder.substack.com/p/the-logic-...

I think some people hear “grants” and think that without them, scientists and government workers just have less stuff to play with at work. But grants fund salaries for students, academics, researchers, and people who work in all areas of public service. “Pausing” grants means people don’t eat.

Everyone should be aware of the line that has been crossed in the Trump trans military EO. No longer is this about "evidence," "science" or "protecting kids." Now, explicitly, black and white, it's about trans people being "liars," "dishonorable," "false." It's a big step towards very bad things.

Practice non-compliance. If it isn't your habit, start small. Try jaywalking. Park a little weird. Only read your email once a day. Get slow. Prioritize taking care of each other above everything else. The machine is meaningless. We are all that matters.

I’m expecting to go to campus tomorrow to find disarray amongst my grant-funded colleagues, students on assistance, full programs that keep the college running. Meanwhile, my teacher candidates are learning how to protect their students if ICE shows up. Chaos and pain is the point. On repeat.

What drives me nuts about the trans youth "debate" is how much of it consists of people who don't know anything demanding compromises that already exist. Hormones and surgeries for minors receive ABSURD amounts of regulation and scrutiny! Either engage with the facts on this issue or shut up.

i will NOT post doomy shit i will INSTEAD post a donation link give.thetrevorproject.org/campaign/645...

the clear sign that they just don’t see these kids as real people is the endless concern over hypotheticals and the indifference to the reality that actual children are more likely to kill themselves because of these bans

Thank you @Saeed. Had the worst stomach ache all day but spent the evening with my ally community of trans folks and parents of trans kids and I’m so grateful to have a community of care to help each other in our practice of hope even in the darkest times.

Wondering what's happening with the U.S. vs. Skrmetti Supreme Court case this week? Here are some resources 🧵

Justice Jackson asks about a child who does not want to grow breasts. Notable that thousands of boys have cosmetic surgery to remove unwanted breast tissue from their chests.

Amy Coney Barrett saying she'd never heard of cross dressing bans and Kavanaugh saying that trans people can't be given legal protections because then we'll be allowed to play sports pretty much shows the bubble that cis people are in. We're NPCs to them.

Today is a very good day to read Shuli Branson's For A Tranarchist Feminism: Transition as Struggle and Care. Transition has always been much more than the medical and legal legitimacy of our very lives, and we have long known how to help one another transition without and against the state

@katelynburns.com also has a great article up on msnbc today. As a mom of a trans daughter and bonus mom to four other trans kids that already are refugees I am terrified about this case but ready to help build the support communities we’ll need.

I keep thinking about those congresspeople kneeling in the rotunda wearing kente cloth scarves, very performative. There has been no loud, visible, unified support for Sarah McBride from the democrats. It’s a real disgrace. That is your colleague! They are bullying her in your faces. And silence!

Well said! Every attack on trans people is an effort to both: - manufacture rage for distraction/fundraising purposes - drive trans people out of public life And the logistics of the policies always boil down to Republicans making cis women less safe while simultaneously blaming trans people.

The anti-trans obsessives cannot fathom that a trans woman be viewed as their equal, let alone that we'd elected to public office or work the same job as them. And no amount of capitulation will sate their rage. That is why it's imperative that we resist their efforts at each and every turn.

What if we just occupied all the capitol hill bathrooms so nobody gets to piss?

The incoming administration making rape culture its dominant goal has turned me into more of a rage screamer than I already thought I was.

I’m so incredibly disgusted by the party and how it’s leaving her out there to be abused — and thus paving the way for the abuse of all trans folx. My disappointment with how they are responding to EVERYTHING since the election just grows.

FINALLY an elected democrat boldly fights back!

My undergrads and I have decided to replace the last few classes of the semester with a teach-in where we will critically analyze the Dept of Ed chapter of P2025 and design viable pushback tactics teachers on the ground can take. We’ll see what they come up with.

Amazing!! I teach about Dora and about Hirschfeld - incredible to know she lived a long life as her authentic self 💜🏳️‍⚧️

Mood.

I feel like this fundamentally dismisses the power groups and money whose policies are the insidious plans behind what appears to be ineptness. These “dregs” can still make way for my kid and all other trans youth to be completely unprotected from their cruelty.

It blows my mind that media & pundits just keep commenting on things as if it’s just a strange phenomenon we’re witnessing or that any of us are interested in “what democrats could have done.” We are all in the midst of anticipatory trauma and this isn’t just a “circus” while our kids’ lives dangle

This is something that my therapist was telling me about today. That the feeling of nothing mattering, of the joy being taken away from what used to give us joy, is an essential activity of fascism.

Today with my preservice teachers we talked about #traumaresponsiveness as part of our pedagogy… but I’m now expanding this to trauma-prepared. Because we know it’s inevitable our students will be traumatized. Part of the current devastation is that we KNOW to expect Trump-induced trauma now. 💔

The fall of the Roman Empire but very stupid and everyone has phones.

Same. This is SO important

This is maybe more healthy than what I did: I rage ordered mini pepper sprays and stun guns

This report from @ahahistorians.bsky.social came out just in time. I fear that history/social studies teachers are going to face a level of scrutiny that we have not seen in a very long time. Familiarize yourself with it. Stand up for our teachers! 🗃️ www.historians.org/teaching-lea...

Here’s the thing-If I try to build a bridge & get back into relationship w/u I will ALWAYS be plagued by why you voted for a man bent on disappearing my child’s humanity. I don’t know how to move forward while that floats there. For you, it’s politics. For me, it’s the most personal it can get.

It looks like a lot of the serious issues have already been covered by other Starter Packs, so I threw together some of the funny and quirky big accounts at the old place: go.bsky.app/SMCEczT

thinking about switching up my plans for the rest of the semester and focusing on helping my student teachers integrate all 20 of @timothysnyder.bsky.social ‘s warnings on tyranny into their curriculum
