My loyal companion Bode passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, from canine lymphoma — just one month shy of his ninth birthday. I know everyone thinks their dog is the best but Bode truly was the best dog ever. www.democracydocket.com/opinion/in-m...

I was hesitant to write this obituary. Struggle as I might, I don’t have a grand life lesson of his life; nor I any clear meaning to make of his death. I’m just heartbroken that he’s gone. www.democracydocket.com/opinion/in-m...

It used to be that presidents wanted to avoid even the appearance of pay-to-play pardons. When Bush 43 learned that the father of a man he had just pardoned had given $28,500 to the RNC and $2,300 to McCain, he had aides retrieve the pardon grant before it could take effect.

It doesn’t get more corrupt than this. Trump pardoned a tax cheat after his mom attended a $1 million dinner and helped push a smear campaign against Biden. This is pay-to-play at its dirtiest.

If President Trump doesn’t want international students at Harvard, there are plenty of foreign governments and universities happy to take them — along with their talents that have helped make the United States a global tech and scientific leader. www.nbcnews.com/world/asia/h...

. @CNN.com looks like shit right now, and deservedly so, for shamelessly hawking Jake Tapper’s book. This is perfect: “Forgetting about the fact that how fucking weird it is that the news is selling you a book about news they should’ve told you was news a year ago—for free.” ~ Jon Stewart.

Today, we give thanks and pay respect to the Americans who sacrificed so much for our country. Remember them by protecting the freedoms they gave their lives to secure. #MemorialDay

I do understand that Biden’s inner circle covered up his decline. Got it. What I don’t understand is the same journalists and pundits pounding that story are ignoring this psychopath like it’s normal. I accepted Biden was old all along. I can’t accept this lunatic leading us.

Trump told West Point cadets at their graduation that he wouldn't be able to shake their hands, a tradition among US presidents, because he had urgent matters to deal with on China and Russia. This was him "dealing" with China and Russia moments later. He went golfing.

My latest: "We're In American Idiocracy Thanks to White Rage" America can't have nice things, including a normal "Memorial Day" greeting, because of the country's inability to confront and uproot white rage and grievance that has turned us into an Idiocracy. open.substack.com/pub/thelefth...

Weigel: Authoritarian—that’s a fine word to use. If we were watching Canada do this, or France do this, right now—say, ‘We’re not letting any Americans into the school for political reasons’—we’d probably use that word. So I don’t know why it would be anathema when it’s happening here.

Between this and his West Point address, it’s pretty clear Donald Trump isn’t concerned with the troops and is just in it for himself. No mention of the fallen soldiers from our Commander in Chief.

Phang: These are bright, talented young men and women about to embark on the next stage of their lives. And what they got was a rambling, incoherent, dementia-laden rant. Just pure diarrhea of the mouth from Trump. He has no faculties left that remain uncompromised.

Putin hasn’t changed. Trump’s just making excuses for why he failed to end the war in 24 hours like he promised. We’ll know soon if he actually means it if he imposes new sanctions on Russia.

June 14, 2025, be there or be square

Innocent people being slaughtered today both in Ukraine and Gaza in wars Trump promised to end within 24 hours of becoming President. Instead Trump has declared war on our freedoms while he engages in the most brazen corruption ever seen by a US President!

Several guests who attended Trump's crypto dinner this week said they attended with the explicit intent of influencing him and U.S. financial regulations. Trump is selling access to our government to the highest bidder while lining his own pockets. It's all out in the open.

We will not win the battle for democracy if those in the pro-democracy movement prize caution over taking risks. We cannot permit ourselves to be deterred by the defeats and public criticism that are inevitable along the long path of restoring democracy. Now is the time for fearless leadership.

West Point grads got some rambling advice today on selecting a trophy wife after their second divorce from a draft dodger in a red campaign hat before he hauled ass to play golf.
